Item 4CAGENDA ITEM # 4C FEBRUARY 9, 2009 CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH CITY COMMISSION MEETING STAFF REPORT AGENDA ITEM: Extension of Annual Contract for Trimming Palm Trees SUBMITTED BY: Rick Carper, P.E., Public Works Director 2~- DATE: January 23, 2009 BACKGROUND: The City's current contract with Shaw's Tree Service, LLC for palm tree trimming of the Atlantic Boulevard Medians Mayport Road Flyover and Town Center expired on January 15, 2009. Mr. Chris Muchata, Project Manager of Shaw's Tree Service, LLC, has agreed to extend the current contract for another year at the current prices: Cabbage Palm Tree - $18.00 each, Washingtonian Palm Tree - $18.00 each and Medjool (Date) Palm Tree - $50.00 each. The City has the option of extending the current contract for two (2) one year periods. This proposed extension will be the second. RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to sign an extension to the contract for palm tree trimming for one year at the current prices. ATTACHMENTS: Letter signed by Chris Muchata, Project Manager of Shaw's Tree Service, LLC, agreeing to the extension. BUDGET: The Fiscal Year 0809 budget includes $2,150 for Atlantic Blvd. Medians in account 001-5002-541.34-00, $9,250 for Town Center in account 001-5002-541.34-02 and $2,725 for the Mayport Flyover in account 001-5002-541-34.03. Additional palm trimming under the parks Division and Utilities 3400 (Other Contractual Services). accounts is also anticipated.
