MEMORANDUM
TO: The Honorable Mayor
and Members of the Commission
FROM: Jim Han _
'ity Manager
SUBJECT: City Mana is Report
Street lights in Royal Palms Subdivision; The City Commission added the Royal Palms
neighborhood to the list of strategic projects eazlier this yeaz. Input from residents at two recent
meetings and from a door to door survey indicated that additional street lights were a high
priority. The City Police Department conducted an assessment of the street lights in the
neighborhood and has recommended the addition of 21 street lights (three of which will require
new poles to be set) and that another 21 be upgraded to higher wattage bulbs. These lights have
been ordered from the JEA because neighborhood improvements aze considered a strategic item
this yeaz even though the cost for the lights may cause the city to exceed the street light budget.
Street lights range from $6.71 per month fora 70 watt fixture up to $15.28 per month fora 250
watt fixture. The new poles aze expected to cost about $400 a piece. Consequently, the new
poles are expected to cost a total of $1,200 and the other light changes are expected to increase
the monthly bill from JEA by about $250.00. The lights should be installed and upgraded over
the next couple of months.
Hybrid Vehicles; The City Commission expressed interest on several occasions in staffs efforts
to improve the fuel efficiency of City vehicles. It has previously been reported that the City
purchased one hybrid vehicle for the Police Department and an electric vehicle for Pazks
Maintenance. In the last two weeks, two Chevy Malibu Hybrids have been delivered for police
use and a third is scheduled for delivery in early May. This will bring the total fleet of city gas
electric hybrids to four vehicles.
