Board Member Review Committee Meeting
January 8, 2009
Call to order
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pro Tem Mike Borno at 5:01 pm. Those in
attendance were Mayor Pro Tem Mike Borno (Chairman), City Manager Jim Hanson, Member
Glen Fisher, Member Jim Smith, City Clerk Donna Bartle, Recreation Director Timmy Johnson,
Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee Chair Laurie Melancon, Planner Erika Hall,
and Tree Conservation Boazd Chair Maureen Shaughnessy.
1. Approval of the minutes of the BMRC meeting of December 4, 2008.
Motion: Anurove minutes of the Board Member Review Committee meeting of December
4, 2008.
Moved by Fisher, seconded by Smith
Motion carried unanimously
2. Discuss and review applicants for the Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory
Committee listed below and make a recommendation. (There is one vacancy.)
Aaalicants for the Cultural. Arts and Recreational Advisory Board
A. Jeff Wight (to be interviewed)
B. Ray Coleman
C. Meade Coplan
D. Jesse Dattilo
E. Jonathan Daugherty
F. Nancy Dent
Mayor Pro Tem Borno advised there is one vacancy to address on the Cultural Arts and
Recreation Advisory Committee (CARAC) which was vacated by John Longbottom. He
explained that all applicants listed above are to be considered for the vacancy but only Mr Wight
will be interviewed since the others interviewed previously. City Clerk Bartle reported that the
City was unable to reach Nancy Dent to confirm her interest in serving on the Cultural Arts and
Recreation Advisory Committee.
The Committee interviewed Mr. Wight. The purpose of the interview and an overview of the
duties and responsibilities of the Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee were
explained, along with examples of the various programs. He explained his personal
accomplishments, goals and interests in the community. The Committee offered the opportunity
to ask questions and the Committee responded to those questions.

After the interview was completed, the Committee discussed each candidate. The Committee
decided they would recommend two names by ranking order to the Commission for
consideration even though there is only one vacancy.
Motion: (#1 Choice) Recommend auuointing Jeff Wiaht to serve on the Cultural Arts and
Recreation Advisory Committee to fill John Longbottom's unexpired term ending July 8,
2009 and (re)appointing him to an additional term.
Moved by Smith, seconded by Fisher
Motion carried unanimously
Motion: (#2 Choice) -Recommend appointing Jonathan Daugherty to serve on the
Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee to fill John Longbottom's unexpired
term ending July 8, 2009 and (re)appointing him to an additional term.

3. Discuss and review the current members on the Tree Conservation Board whose
terms expire on 1/31/09 and applicants listed below and make a recommendation.
(There are two current members with terms expiring on 1!31/09 and one vacancy
with a term expiration of 1/31/09)

Mr. Borno explained there are three vacancies on the Tree Conservation Bord to address.
He reported two of the current members, Stephanie Catania and Jim McCue, whose terms
aze expiring, are interested in being reappointed and member Carol Vazney has resigned.
He explained that all applicants listed above aze to be considered for the vacancies but only
Mr. Redmond will be interviewed since the others interviewed previously.
The Committee interviewed Frank Redmond. The purpose of the interview and an overview of
the duties and responsibilities of the Tree Conservation Board were provided to him. He
explained his personal accomplishments, his goals and his interest in the community. The
Committee offered him the opporhuuty to ask questions and the Committee responded to those
questions.
After the interview was completed, the Committee discussed each candidate. Ms. Shaughnessy
and Ms. Hall gave their evaluation of the current members. The Committee discussed each
member's attendance record and contribution to the Tree Conservation Board.

Motion: Recommend reappointing Stephanie Catania and Jim McCue to the Tree
Conservation Board for an additional term.
Moved by Smith, seconded by Fisher
Motion carried unanimously.
The Committee decided they would recommend two names by ranking order to the Commission
for consideration to fill the vacancy of Carol Varney.
Motion: (1St Choice) Recommend appointing Frank Redmond as a new member to the
Tree Conservation Board for atwo-veer term beginnutg Febraary 1.20119.
Moved by Smith, seconded by Fisher
Motion carried unanimously.
Motion: (2nd Choice) Recommend appointing Jonathan Daugherty as a new member to
the Tree Conservation Board for atwo-veer term besinning February 1, 2009.
Moved by Fisher, seconded by Smith
Motion carried unanimously.
