Item 6AAGENDA ITEM # 6A APRIL 27, 2009 RESOLUTION NO. 09-05 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE CONTINUED MAINTENANCE OF AN OFFICE FOR THE DUVAL COUNTY TAX COLLECTOR AT THE BEACHES WHEREAS, the Duval County Tax Collector has maintained an office at various locations at the beaches for many years and that office is currently located at 1505 Atlantic Boulevard, and WHEREAS, the Tax Collector's Office at the beaches provides easy access to many important county services for beaches residents including titles and registrations, renewals for local business taxes, payments for current and delinquent properly tax assessments, the purchase of passes for Jacksonville Transportation Authority busses, issuance of Jacksonville animal licenses, payments of parking citations, drivers license transactions and storm water charges and several other miscellaneous services, and WHEREAS, this office serves a large population in the service area and processed 82,580 transactions last year for citizens from Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Jacksonville Beach and portions of the City of Jacksonville on both the east and west sides of the Intracoastal Waterway, and WHEREAS, the elimination of the beaches office of the Duval County Tax Collector has been proposed as a cost cutting measure to balance the budget, and WHEREAS, the elimination of that office would place a significant hardship on the citizens of the beaches area by driving farther to get to another Tax Collector's Office and by increasing traffic congestion on several already crowded major arteries. NOW THEREFORE BE TT RESOLVED, by the Mayor and Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach that the City Commission supports the continued presence of an office of the Duval County Tax Collector at a beaches location.
