Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, March 24, 2009
Adele Grage Community Center
7:00 p.m.
Present: Lori Gaglione, Mark Howard, Jolyn Johnson, Ingrid McCawley, Laurie Melancon, Dawson Pickett,
Lynne Roskein, Jeff Wight, and Timmy Johnson (liaison).
1. Call to order -Lori Gaglione called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.
2. Approval of Meeting Minutes -Laurie moved that the committee accept the minutes as written. Jolyn
seconded the motion and the February 24, 2009 minutes were accepted unanimously.
Ongoing Business
a. Events and Updates
i. Songwriters' Concert & Acoustic Nights -Ingrid attended the Acoustic Night and reported
that the event was held indoor due to weather but was very well attended. There were
seventeen performers for the first event and more wanting to perform.
ii. Arts in the Park - Jolyn reported that 50 artists were approved to date with more expected
by Apri13. The Beaches Children's Choir are not able to perform. Mushroom sandwiches
will be added to food vendors. T-shirts are in process and all volunteers that work will get
a t-shirt, Teen Council will volunteer for the event and were asked to come at 10 a.m. Lori
reported that ads have been placed for the event and the advertising budget has been
spent Volunteer meeting to beheld before the event Other logistics for the event were
discussed.
iii. Cooking Class -Mark reported that we could not have a cooking class at Adele and charge
money. If it's at the restaurant than you can charge and include wine. Apri115~ at the
Beaches Dirlrter and owner will handle sign-up for 20 participants.
iv. Art Walk -The committee discussed whether to have artists outside the building in
summer. Ma~be invite jewelers since the Art Walk has so many at the Town Center.
b. Teen Council -Dawson passed out a schedule of events for Teen Council. She reported information
about an upcoming senior scholarship of $500. Students have to write an essay about what they
would do with a million dollars. The scholarship award will be made in May. A no-soap car wash is
planned for Apri118 to raise money for the scholarship. Another event would be Geocaching-
using GPS to map clues around the beaches. The Teen Council will be helping at Arts in the Park
April 25~.
c. Budget -Tim reported that the city manager has asked all departments to cut their budgets by 5~ib
and then 10~i6 - a cut of $12,000. Tim will email the CARAC budget to members to review before
the April meeting. The budget needs to be completed by May 22~ so will need to finalize CARAC
budget before May.
d. Comcast is offering $150,000 for community grants. Jeff and Tim talked about writing a grant to
support a CARAC communityevent/s. The grant will need to be approved at the next meeting for
the May 1st deadline. Jeff will bring a draft for the grant money to the next meeting asking for
$10,000 to 15,000 for funding for one or more of the CARAC events for 2009-10.
Health Lecture -Jeff reported that the health lecture will be on Apri118, 4 p.m. in the Adele Grage
theatre. The lecture announcement will be sent to the newspapers and publicized at gyms and
other health businesses around Atlantic Beach

4. Adjournment -Mark moved to adjourn the meeting; Laurie seconded the motion; and the meeting was
adjourned at 7:58 p.m.
