Item 2AAGENDA ITEM # 2A MAY 11, 2009 STAFF REPORT City of Atlantic Beach Commission Meeting AGENDA ITEM: Superior Achievement Awazd DATE: May 4, 2009 SUBMITTED BY: Michael D. Classey -Chief of Police BACKGROUND: The City of Atlantic Beach Personnel Manual Section 27-OS provides for a Superior Achievement Award. In general, a superior achievement is an accomplishment that has resulted in monetary savings to the city. While Officer Chase Jamison has been with the Police Department, he been very active in all areas of traffic enforcement, particulazly making DUI arrests and training new officers on how to identify impaired drivers. Utilizing his own initiative, he researched and located a Florida Department of Transportation grant for a DUI enforcement vehicle. He wrote the grant application and developed the operational plan for this grant. The Police Department was awazded this grant in the amount of $36,025. This allowed the city to purchase a brand new Ford Crown Victoria. It also provided funding for all necessary equipment for the vehicle such as a laptop computer, radar, digital camera system, a portable breath testing unit and all other necessary equipment to fi>Zly outfit a police vehicle. Officer Jamison demonstrated great initiative and follow through from beginning to end. The department has taken delivery of the vehicle and it is in the final stages of being outfitted.
