Re: Island Club Townhouses Parking Proposal from Sheldon Weiner
Mr. Sheldon Weiner, owner of # 15 Tenth Street, has sent an email to the other residents of the Island Club Townhouses
outlining his plan for the 10th street parking to go to weekend only restricted parking which 1 understand he proposed at
the last Commission meeting. He has stated that we either go along with his proposal or he will drop out of the parking
which he understands will nullify all parking for the residents. According to the current contract we have with the city, all 10
residents must pay for parking or no parking will be restricted for the residents.
I have sent emails and/or talked to all owners and in the case of 3 units, the renters as well as owners, and everyone
agrees that his proposal is not workable. It would cause confusion as to when people could or couldn't park in what
spaces.lt would require multiple permanent signs in front of the units which would detract from our units. It would also put
the residents back to where we were before we got the parking. That being, every time we left our parking space we could
not be sure we could get it when we returned. If the surfs up or the fish are running all spaces would be filled even during
the week. It would also put us back to cleaning up the debris from all 20 spaces as we had to do before. All avenues of
approach on the parking were covered in the original discussions and the one we have now was determined to be the
optimal solution for both us and the city.
Tenth street is a very nice place to go to the beach and has become a popular spot for beach goers. We have seen more
and more families frequent the beach here. The current parking agreement has not stopped anyone from coming to the
beach, in fact it has increased. The residents of the Island Club Townhouses enjoy the interaction with the beach goers.
Many stop and talk and ask us about our improvements to the units and several have asked us about any of them
being for sale but everyone likes it so well they are not interested in selling. We appreciate that the Commission allowed
us to lease the parking, it has relieved us of the stress of always worrying about have a parking space when we leave and
return, especially when we have several bags of groceries to unload.
Our suggestion and hope would be that if Mr. Weiner prefers to give up his parking space we could get the contract
reworded for 2010 to indicate that we could lease 9 parking spaces and have 11 for public use. This would help with Mr.
Weiner's concerns by increasing the public spaces by one and at the same time would let those of us who feel we really
need our parking spaces not be punished for the desires of one individual. Any help you could give us would be greatly
appreciated.
The following have been contacted and all agree that Mr. Weiner's proposal will not work for us:
