RE: Marsh Fest '09 -November 14, 2009
Dear Jim:
On behalf of the Marsh Preservation Society, we would like to once again
request the City of Atlantic Beach to be a co-sponsor of this year's "Marsh Fest '09" to
celebrate the City's acquisition of the Buckman-Pritchard lands, now known as "River
Branch Preserve."
We would like to hold the event at Dutton Island (where the two previous Marsh
Fests were held) on November 14, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The intent of the
event is two-fold -first, to publicize that the acquisition has taken place, thus giving
Atlantic Beach the distinct honor of owning one of the largest salt marsh park systems at
the beaches; and two, to start a fundraising campaign to fund the master planning of
the Preserve which will allow public access to the island now known as Crying Child
Island.
It is our intent to donate to the City any monies or specific pledges received
through this event once the expenses for the event have been covered. We ore
hoping that through private sponsorships and donations, the expenses will be covered
going into the event and all remaining proceeds will be donated to the City. I have
attached a preliminary budget to give you an idea of anticipated expenses that we
intend to cover.
