MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE ATLANTIC BEACH CITY COMMISSION
HELD AT THE CITY HALL ON MONDAY, AUGUST 28, 1972, AT 8: 00 P.M.
PRESENT: William S. Howell, Mayor-Commissioner

The meeting was called to order by Mayor-Commissioner, Mr. Howell.
The invocation was given by Commissioner Minton, followed by the
pledge to the flag.
The minutes of the regular meeting of August 14, 1972, were approved
as written upon motion of Commissioner Minton, seconded by Com-
missioner Speed and carried.
Mayor Howell presented plans from Fowler Investments, Inc. reauest-
ina an addition to their building located at 400 Levy Road,
Atlantic Beach. After reviewing the plans, it was moved by Com-
missioner Minton, seconded by Commissioner Speed and carried the
plans be approved.
Mr. George Bull stated that he wished to postpone bringing before
the Commission further plans on the development of Selva Marina
along Selva Marina Drive and Saturiba Drive due to the fact that
Mr. Walter J. Parks, Jr, Consulting Engineer is ill and he is not
prepared at this time to present all the facts. He requested a
meeting with the Commission to go over his plans when he has all
figures and facts. Mr. Bull stated he would like for the Commiss-
ion, along with the Advisory Planning Board to consider placing
the existing unzoned land in Selva Marina under the "PUD ZONING" .
Mayor Howell stated Mr. Bull ' s request requires a special committee
meeting by the entire Commission, The Commission will meet as a
committee of the whole September 5, 1972 at 8: 00 P .M.

An Ordinance amending Section 1, 2 and 3 of Ordinance No. 70-58-1
was read by title only and presented to the Commission in full in
writing. It was moved by Commissioner Speed, seconded by Commis-
sioner Minton that said Ordinance be passed on first reading by
title only. The motion carried. Public Hearing was set for
September 11, 1972.
Mayor Howell stated the Commission took action on the Pop Warner
Leagues ' request for funds at the last regular meeting of the
City Commission. Mayor Howell suggested this item be postponed
until Atlantic Beach finds out where we stand in regard to Revenue
Sharing.
There being no objections, Mayor Howell instructed Mr. Vogel, City
Manager, to call for bids on drainage pipe.
Chief Stucki stated that with school starting next week the neces-
sary school crossing guards have been employed for duty at the
school and on Mayport Road.
Chief Stucki announced that Judge Dunlop was in the audience to-
night and that he is celebrating his 16th year as Municipal Judge
in Atlantic Beach, Florida.
On behalf of the citizens of Atlantic Beach and the Commission,
Mayor Howell expressed appreciation for all Judge Dunlop has done
for Atlantic Beach.
It was announced by Mr. Richard Hilliard, Director of Public Works,
that the house located at 610 Sherry Drive has been removed and
the lot cleared. Also, the Beaches Cab Company have removed the
junk cars from the City of Atlantic Beach, Florida.
Coach Sutton, Athletic Director for Fletcher Junior High School
gave a brief presentation of the new programs being planned for
the junior high school. He stated new tennis courts and a new
swimming pool are needed and asked the City of Atlantic Beach to
help with these projects.

Following discussion, Commissioner Minton moved that if we can
straighten out the Revenue Sharing and if monies are approved
for the Pop Warner League, then we will consider the approval
to Fletcher Junior High School as requested, seconded by Com-
missioner Speed and carried.
There being no further business, the meeting was a. ourned.
