Item 8CAGENDA ITEM # 8C DECEMBER 14, 2009 CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH CITY COMMISSION MEETING STAFF REPORT AGENDA ITEM: Proposed Change to Dog Park Location from Tideviews Preserve to Hopkins Creek Pond SUBMITTED BY: Rick Carper, P.E., Public Works DirectorG/~ DATE: November 30, 2009 BACKGROUND: At the last Commission Meeting, a representative of the AB Dog Park Committee requested the City consider moving the site designated for the proposed dog park from Tideviews Preserve to Hopkins Creek Pond. Hopkins Creek has several advantages including an already fenced enclosure and a more central location, but does not meet one of the original considerations for the Tideviews location of increasing public awareness of and traffic to that park. Attached is a table listing advantages and disadvantages of each location, along with Staff generated cost estimates of budget needed to place each park in service. BUDGET: There are no funds budgeted for the improvements required to make a dog park operational in either the current year budget or the proposed budget for FY 2010. Fund raising by supporters continues with over $xx raised to date, plus a pledge of $15,000 matching funds from COJ (Councilman Graham / Mesenre). RECOMMENDATION: None. For Commission review /discussion only. ATTACHMENTS: 1. Aerial Photograph of Proposed Hopkins Creek Dog Park Site 2. Aerial Photograph of Tideviews Dog Park Site 3.
