1. Lori called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. with a quorum of members present. This is a special
meeting that combines the November and December meeting agendas.
2. The committee reviewed the October 27, 2009 meeting minutes. Ingrid moved that the minutes
be accepted and Cris seconded the motion. The minutes were approved unanimously.
3. Ongoing Business
a. Songwriters' Concert- No report from Mike Shackelford on the concert.
b. Holiday Sing-along -Ingrid asked committee members to please donate cookies for the
event. Lori volunteered for cookie patrol. Jeff will handle crowd control. Jolyn will buy
cookies. Ingrid's family will help set-up. A park ranger will help with the snow machines.
Having a DJ will really help with singing and music during the event. The DJ will bring all
the equipment and set that up himself.
c. Arts in the Park - Jotyn is working on inviting some new artists. "Call to Artists" has gone
out in the papers. The committee discussed whether to offer'scholarships' to JU, UNF, and
FSCJ art students to show work at the art show. Jolyn will check with Mark about asking
some of the top student artists to attend.
d. Teen Council - No news on teen council.
e. Artisan Faire Report -Lynne reported that the event had a good turnout. The artists
enjoyed the event. Lynne spent more money on food this year for appetizers and dessert
Dessert seemed to be the most popular so she recommends that for next year she would
like to do only fruit, cheese and desserts with sandwiches for the artists. She would also
like to rename the event, and is open to suggestions and other ideas.
4. New Business
a. Pecha Kucha -Meade presented a proposal to the group for a new event for 2010. Pecha
Kucha would be six minute presentations on whatever topics that could be presented in
the theater during the Art Walk each month. Presenters would sign-up ahead of time and
could use a laptop, projector, screen to show original content and ideas. The first event
would be January 21 and be on a trial basis for several months. Meade said that she would
put flyers and information out to advertise the event and asked for the committee to get
the word out to artists and organizations for cutting edge presentations to kick-start the
event. The committee liked the idea and agreed to give it a trial basis to see if the idea
would take off at the beaches. Lynne moved that the committee move forward with the
event; Ingrid seconded the motion; and the committee unanimously agreed to move
forward with the event in January.
b. Beaches Fine Arts has requested an additional $2000 of financial support from the City of
Atlantic Beach for the upcoming year. They have lost several sponsors the past year for
the Mother's Day event and are hoping to makeup the deficit in their budget. The City
Commission has sent this request for review to the Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory
Committee. After discussion and review of their budget for the coming year, the
committee is already supporting BFA with a $3000 donation but does not have additional
funds in their budget. Lynne made a motion that the City Commission support Beaches
Fine Arts with an additional donation of $2000; Meade seconded the motion. The
committee unanimously agreed to recommend that the City Commission support Beaches
Fine Arts with additional donation of $2000 for the coming year's programs.
5. Adjournment -The committee will meet again January 26, 2010. With no further business, Lori
asked the committee to adjourn the meeting at 7:48 p.m. The committee agreed to adjourn.
