AGENDA ITEM: Request to Evaluate Additional Parking for Adele Grage Cultural Center
and Bull Park

BACKGROUND: The Commission requested that Staff investigate construction of
additional parking at Bull Park to support events at the Adele Grage Cultural Center.
Currently there are fifteen marked parking spaces and one handicap space on the east
and west sides of Bull Park and on-street space for approximately 9 vehicles on the north
side of Seventh Street. In addition, within one-quarter mile of the Adele Grage building,
there is room for in excess of 90 additional vehicles using on-street parking on adjacent
streets (see table -Attachment 2).
Staff reviewed three possible options for adding additional spaces immediately adjacent
to the park:
1). Extend the existing parallel parking on East Coast Drive south approximately forty-
five feet. Adds two spaces with an estimated cost of $6,000.
2). Widen Seventh Street to provide parallel parking on the south side of the street. Adds
room for five to six vehicles with an estimated cost of $10,000.
3). Change the existing on-street parking on Seventh Street to straight in parking.
Requires relocation of sidewalk and removal of ten palm trees (work around existing 32"
triple trunk live oak). Adds 6 spaces (including an additional handicap space) at an
estimated cost of $46,000.
BUDGET: There are no funds budgeted this year for parking modifications. Because of the
dollar amount required, Staff recommends this be considered during the FY 2010-2011
budget workshops this summer.
