Item 8AAGENDA ITEM # 8A MARCH 8, 2010 STAFF REPORT City of Atlantic Beach Commission Meeting AGENDA ITEM: Requests from Bishop Golden DATE: February 24, 2010 ~~ SUBMITTED BY: David E. Thompson, Asst. City Manager BACKGROUND: At the February 22, 2010 City Commission Meeting, Bishop Percy Golden submitted several requests relative to the Annual Gospel in the Park event planned for May 1, 2010 at Jordan Park. 1. Request: Permission to set up food vending in the park. Recommendation: Approval with the understanding that all proceeds go to the church. 2. Request: Provide stage. Recommendation: Disapproval. The stage belongs to the City of Jacksonville, and the City of Atlantic Beach would be required to pay $350 plus tax for the rental. This was not budgeted, and there are no funds for this expense. 3. Request: Provide Jordan Park Recreation Center for the event. Recommendation: Approval for food preparation and for protecting people from adverse weather conditions. Not to be used for religious purposes. Bishop Golden and members of his church have been active participants in the Mayport Corridor initiative to improve the quality of life in the community. This was a significant consideration in arriving at the recommendations above. BUDGET: None RECOMMENDATIONS: To approve the recommendation noted above. ATTACHMENTS: Letter from Dr. Percy J.
