The elevation of the lowest grade immediately adjacent to the building is: L_t_J~L1~7J . ~,°~ feet NGVD (or other FIRM datum-see Section B, Item 7). SECTION D COMMUNITY INFORMATION 1. If the community official responsible for verifying building elevations specifies that the reference level indicated in Section C, Item 1 is rtot the "lowest floor" as defined in the community's floodplain management ordinance, the elevation of the building's "lowest floor" as defined by the ordinance is: ~ I I I I I .^ feet NGVD (or other FIRM datum-see Section B, Item 7). 2. Optional positive angle nailing, with 8d common nails installed in double shear, connects shear bkx*ing to rafter. Double shear nailing, with Halls driven at an angle through two members, disMtwtea the load through two points on each nail for greater strength. Slot allows field-bending to acoornmodate shear blocking angle-bend one time only. Designed to provide wind and seismic ties for trusses and rafters, this versatile line may be used for general tie purposes, strongbadc attachments, and as all-purpose ties where one member crises another. The H4 and H5 hurricane ties have unique shapes that require sewer nails. The designs allow for installation on the inside of the member without Interfering with the drywall, or on the outside of the member without Interfering with the sheathing material. The H5 is designed to tie the top iwo wall plates to the rafter. The versatile H6 and H7 hurricane ties are designed and tested for high load capaGty. Use to attach studs, joists, trusses, plates, and other wood structural elements; see illustrations. MATERIAL: See table FINISH: t3alvanized. MATERIAL: 2'/,e" x HPA-10 gauge; all others-12 gauge FINISH: Galvanized. Selected products available 1n Z-MAX coating; see Corrosion Resistant Connectors. INSTALLATION: • Use all specified fasteners. See General Notes. • Where fewer fasteners are used in the structural wood member, reduce loads according to the code. A wood splitting problem may occur when holdowns are nailed to lumber less than 3'/z" wide. To lessen splitting of 3x's or double 2x's, either fill every nail tide with 10dx1'/z" nails or fill every other nail hole with 16d commons. Reduce the allowable load based on the size and quantity of fasteners used. • Unless otherwise noted, do NOT install where: (a) a horizontal cold joint exists within the embedment depth between the slab and foundation wall or footing beneath, unless provisions are made to transfer the toad, or the slab Is designed to resist the load imposed by the anchor; (b) slabs are poured over concrete block foundation walls; or (c) the members being anchored are less than 3'/p"wide. • To get the full table load, the minimum center-to-center spacing is twice the embedment depth when resisting tension load at the same time. FOUNDATION CORNERS: Nail and bolt quantities have been reduced when the load is limited by tested concrete pullout strength (fill holes from top down); additional nail holes need not be filled. Nail and bolt quantities may be reduced further for less than 9" corner distance design toads-use code allowable bads for fasteners used in shear. TWO•POUR SYSTEMS: When a cold joint exists between slab and foundation, the holdown will be lower on the stud wall since the embedded portion of the holdown must be in the foundation (see labia footnote i on page 13 for exception). Fewer fasteners are used, reducing allowable loads. Loads are calculated using a 4" stab over 8" and 10" foundation walls. PA51, PA68 FOUNDATION STRAPS: ^ Designed for foundation to double 2x10 band joists and crawl space floor system connections in high wind or earthquake resistant construction (see illustration). Narmal load duration contemplates a load that fully stresses a member to its allowable design value by the application of the full design load for a cumulative duration of approximately ten years. When the cumulative duration of the full maximum load does not exceed the specified time period, all tabulated design values except modulus of elasticity, E, and compression perpendicular to grain, F~l ,based on a deformation limit (see 4,2,6) shall be multiplied by the appropriate load duration factor, Cn, from Table 2.3.2 or Figure B 1 (see Appendix B) to take into account the change in strength of wood with changes in load duration. 2.3.2.2 The load duration factor, CD, for the short- est duration load in a combination of loads shall apply for that load combination.
