Item 9AAGENDA ITEM # 9A APRIL 12, 2010 Apri15, 2010 MEMORANDUM TO: The Honorable Mayor and Members of the Commission FROM: Jim Hanso CIty1Gi~rr~er- SUBJECT: City Manag 's Report Sale of Alcohol to Minors; the Atlantic Beach Police Department conducted another alcohol. deployment on March 19 checking 13 stores and restaurants to see if they would sell alcohol to minors. Of the 13 businesses checked, sales were made to minors at three including the King Food Store at 31 Seminole Road, the Chevron Gas Station at 1480 Mayport Road and Sticky Fingers Restaurant in Town Center. This is the first time the employees at either the King Food Store or Sticky Fingers have sold alcohol to minors in recent checks although this is the third time since the beginning of 2009 that employees at the Chevron Gas Station have sold alcohol to minors. Most of the restaurants and businesses in Atlantic Beach have taken strong actions to better educate their employees after they have been notified by the Atlantic Beach Police Department of violations. In only a couple of occasions over the years that these checks have been done have employees at businesses been found to have a third sale in a relatively short period of time. In those incidences, the Mayor has sent a personal letter to the business owner advising them of the seriousness of the offense and urging them in very strong terms to take steps to see that it does not happen again. Such a letter has been sent to the owners of the Chevron Gas Station in response to this third incident.
