Item 4CAGENDA ITEM # 4C APRIL 26, 2010 CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH CITY COMMISSION MEETING STAFF REPORT AGENDA ITEM: Annual Contract for Trimming Palm Trees SUBMITTED BY: Rick Carper, P.E., Director of Public Works ~ E_ DATE: April 15, 2010 BACKGROUND: Bids were opened on April 14, 2010 for a new annual contract for palm tree trimming. The Bid includes the Atlantic Blvd. Medians, Town Center and Mayport Road Flyover-areas, Mayport Road Medians, several park areas and provides a per tree price for other City Departments. The bid states that Sabal and Washingtonia palms will be trimmed in late spring, while the Medjool Date palm trimming will probably be scheduled in July/August. Specifications require trimming palm fronds up to the 9:00 O'clock & 3:00 O'clock positions, removing all berry stalks and rotten boots. The Specifications authorize two one-year renewals upon mutual agreement of the City and the Contractor. Four (4) bids were received: Com an Location Total for one trimmin North ointe Services, Inc. Jacksonville, Florida $87,383.83 Odom's Beaches Tree Service, Inc. Jacksonville Beach, Florida $20,637.50 Shaw's Tree Service, LLC Jacksonville, Florida $18,140.00 Stewart's Tree Service Cartersville, Geor is $359,296.79 Shaw's Tree Service is the current City contractor for annual trimming and has done a satisfactory job for the past three years. The unit prices in this bid are the same as the current Palm trimming contract. RECOMMENDATION: Award the Annual Contract for Trimming Palm Trees to Shaw's Tree Service, LLC ATTACHMENTS: Bid Tabulation Sheet BUDGET: Total budget for Fiscal Year 09/10 is $3,850 for Atlantic Blvd. &Mayport Rd. Medians (account 001-5002-541.34-00); $10,000 for Town Center (account 001-5002-541.34-02); $3,250 for flyover areas (account 001- . 5002-541.34-03); and $4,000 for Parks (account 001-6020-572.34-00).
