3-23-10~c~ ,;s ,. %~ }i ~r ~.,. ~f CULTURAL ARTS and RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH Meeting Minutes Tuesday, March 23, 2010 Adele Grage Community Center 7:00 p.m. Present: Lori Gaglione (chair), Cris Garrard, Jolyn Johnson, Ingrid McCawley, Lynne Roskein. Liaison: Timmy Johnson. Absent: Jeff Wight, Meade Coplan 1. Call to order -Lori called the meeting to order at 7:28 p.m. 2. Approval of Meeting Minutes -Cris moved and Jolyn seconded the motion to approve the February 23, 2010 minutes. The committee unanimously approved the minutes as written. 3. Events, Updates, Reports a. Songwriters' Concert & Acoustic Night -Jeff was absent so the committee tabled the report until next month. b. Arts in the Park -Lori gave an update on publicity efforts for Arts in the Park. There will not be an ad in St. Augustine Record but will send a press release for the calendar. Kathleen Bailey at Beaches Leader will have apre-story. The committee discussed what focus the article should have: feature an artist or focus on the venue. Timmy will follow-up on coverage from last year's event. Radio and TV stations have been called but will need someone to talk to them about the event. We will need to find someone who would like to do it and provide a script. The committee wants to order lanyards for volunteers and have Melinda design card inserts. Extra post cards were ordered for committee members and artists to send out. Also for distribution, committee members can email the poster.pdf out to others who have large email lists. Jolyn reported that the event has 83 artists this year, 20 more than last year. c. Lagniappe Night -Timmy reported that the March Lagniappe had 7 presenters and 20-25 people who attended. People seemed to enjoy themselves and Meade will offer the event again in April d. Farmer's Market -report tabled until next month for Jeffs proposal. 4. New Business a. Budget 2010-11-Timmy will send out last yeaz's budget for the committee to review and consider for the upcoming yeaz. Last yeaz the City Council added money back into the budget for schools. b. Shakespeare in the Park -Taming of the Shrew. Linda Ginsberg called Timmy about LJNF students offering Shakespeare in the Pazk this year for the third weekend of April. They are willing to do it free of chazge. Timmy said they will provide the stage, lights, and the publicity for the event -posters and press releases. The committee believes that they can get the word out locally. Timmy will check with iJNF and see if they do the play during and after Arts in the Park on April 24 instead of the previous weekend. . 5. Adjournment With no further agenda items or announcements, Lynne moved that the meeting be adjourned and Ingrid seconded the motion.
