Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, April 27, 2010
Adele Grage Community Center
7:00 p.m.
Present. Lori Gaglione (chair), Meade Copkm, Cris Garrard,JolynJohnson, Ingrid McCawley, Lynne
Roskein. Jeff Wight. Liaison: Timmy Johnson.
1. Call to order - Vice Chair Lynne Roskein called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.
2. March 23, 2010Meeting Minutes - The committee reviewed the minutes. With no
changes, Cris motioned to accept the minutes, Meade seconded the motion, and the
committee unanimously approved the minutes as written.
3. Ongoing Business
a. Events, Updates, Reports
i. Songwriters' Concert & Acoustic Night - Ingrid reported that Songwriters
was a full house. Acoustic Night was also well attended but had to move
into the theatre due to rain.
ii. Arts in the Park - Jolyn reported that over 50% of the attendees were new
this year. She is currently compiling the artist evaluation and will give a
report on the evaluation and budget at the next meeting. She noted that
some artists requested a second day for the festival; the 60+ volunteers
were excellent, and that the musicians contributed $1800 in kind music.
iii. Lagniappe Nights! - Meade reported that the April Lagniappe was another
fun night with 20+ people attending. She would like to continue Lagniappe
into the summer during the North Beaches Art Walk. The committee
agreed that she should continue to coordinate the event
iv. Farmer's Market Proposal - Jeff reported that he planned to take the green
market proposal to the city commission. The objective is to bring healthy
food into the community every Wednesday. Jeff would supervise the
market but UNF volunteer students would help run the event each week for
2 -3 hours. Lori asked the committee to approve Jeffs proposal and take it
the City Commission. Meade seconded the motion which was unanimously
approved by the committee. Tim will forward the proposal to the city
manager and have it added to the commission meeting for discussion.
b. Budget 2010 -11- Tim passed out the 2009 -10 budget to the committee for
discussion and review for the coming year. Jolyn asked if the Arts budget could be
increased for Arts in the Park to include payment for musicians and other
amenities at the park. Meade asked that Lagniappe be added to the budget for the
upcoming year. Other items were also reviewed and amended.
After discussion, Lori moved that the committee accept the following budget for
2010 -2011. Jeff seconded the motion and the committee unanimously approved
the following:
o Arts in the Park - $7000
o Artisan Fair - $1500
• Sing Along $750
• Songwriters and Acoustic Nights - $5800
• Lagniappe Night - $750
• Advertising & Mailings - $1500
• Discretionary - $1000
• Working Warrior - $2000
o Beaches Fine Arts - $3000
o Beaches Resource Center - $1000
o Senior Dial -a -Ride - $1500
• Atlantic Beach Elementary - $16,500
• Mayport Middle School - $14,00
c. Shakespeare in the Park - Tim reported that approximately 100 people attended
the Friday night performance of Taming of the Shrew by the UNF theater
department in Russell Park. More than 200 attended the Saturday performance.
He would like to see if they could do more performances in the future in the city
parks. The committee discussed if plays could be combined with Arts in the Park
in Johansen Park and what obstacles would need to be addressed including
lighting and electricity.
4. New Business
a. Art Walk at Adele Grage spring & summer - Jolyn asked CARAC members if they
might attend the monthly North Beaches Art Walk and 'host' the receptions for the
Adele Grage artist exhibition. With agreement, Karen was asked to follow -up with
an email sign -up sheet for upcoming events.
5. Announcements -Next meeting is May 2S, 2010 at 7 p.m. at Adele Grage.
6. Adjournment - With no further business, Lynne moved that the meeting be adjourned.
Cris seconded the motion and with committee agreement, the meeting was adjourned at
8:04 pm.
