SUBJECT: Follow-up rt
Abandonment of Walter Road; A question was raised at the last city commission meeting
about the ordinance abandoning a portion of Walter Road. Specifically, the question was
whether the abandonment included all portions of Walter Road from Jordon Street going east or
just a portion of the right-of--way adjacent to the property of the Roberts Mount Pisgah AME
Church. I stated in that last meeting that my understanding was that the property to be
abandoned only included that portion of Walter Road that abutted the church property. That
statement was incorrect. The legal description that is attached to the ordinance abandons the
entire section of Walter Road extending farther east from the church property to its present
termination at the city public works yard.
Abandoning this entire section of the platted unopened right-of--way called Walter Road will not
serve to land lock any property owner because there will remain another platted unopened right-
of-way running north and south located on the east side of the church property that will be
accessed by the newright-of--way being donated by the church to the city that will extend
through their parking lot.
The owners of the affected parcels have been notified of the public hearing scheduled for August
9th. As of the time of this wriring, none have expressed any objection to the Walter Road
abandonment.
