CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH
Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, July 27, 2010
Adele Grage Community Center
7:00 p.m.
Present: Lori Gaglione (chair), Cris Garrard, Jolyn Johnson, Ingrid McCawley, Lynne Roskein with
Liaison Timmy Johnson and Karen Kempf, recording. Absent. Meade Coplan and Jeff'Wight,
Visitors. Tammy Lally and Commissioner Jonathan Daugherty.
1. Call to order -Lori called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm with a quorum of members.
2. The minutes from June 22, 2010 meeting were reviewed by the committee. Cris moved to
accept the minutes as written, Lynne seconded the motion and the minutes were
unanimously approved.
3. Tammy Lally, incoming appointed committee member in August, and Commissioner
Daugherty were introduced and welcomed by the committee.
4. Ongoing Business
a. Events Reports & Updates
i. Songwriters' Concert & Acoustic Night -Tim reported:
1. Songwriters - no report on July attendance
2. Acoustic Night -100 plus people in Bull park with good music.
ii. Lagniappe Nights! -the pictures and articles in the newspapers - Beaches
Leader and Shorelines - with large articles were passed around for the
committee to examine. There will be no Sept Lagniappe which will be
moving to the first Wednesday each month.
iii. MidWeek Market- the market is scheduled to reopen on Sept 8 with music.
The gallery will be open to the public to view the artwork.
iv. Art Walk - Karen will send out the upcoming artists scheduled through the
end of the year. She is asking for volunteers to help host the reception each
month.
v. Status of Volunteer Hours- committee members are asked to turn in all
volunteer hours for themselves and their volunteers from October 2009
through September 2011 for tracking of hours and numbers of volunteers
who support special event at Ab.
S. New Business
a. Public Art Proposal - Jolyn presented a proposal to CARAC for artists to create
public art for the City. Artists would use JEA and City -owned utility boxes and lift
stations to create works of art in various neighborhoods. The committee reviewed
and discussed the proposal. Lynne moved that the CARAC present the proposal to
the City Commission for approval to proceed with the project coordinated by the
committee. Cris seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous in support of
presenting a proposal to the Commission. Timmy, Dale and Jolyn will refine the
proposal. Commissioner Daugherty offered to place it on the agenda in August or
September.
6. Other Agenda Items /Announcements
a. Ingrid McCawley, outgoing committee member was recognized for her dedication
and years of volunteering to the cultural arts of Atlantic Beach.
b. Next CARAC meeting is scheduled for August 24th.
7. Adjournment - With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:48 pm.
