MEMORANDUM
January 6, 2009
TO: Ted Alesch, Alesch Contracting, Inc.
CC: Atlantic Beach Building Dept.
FR: Jeffrey B. Sellers, PE, CGC
RE: Alesch Residence Kitchen Renovation
1946 Beachside Court
Atlantic Beach, FL 32233
Permit#
It is my understanding that a Kitchen Renovation is desired for the above referenced
structure and the removal of(3) existing interior walls will be required. It was determined
from a visit to the site on December 31", 2008 that one of the walls in question is a load
bearing wall and the other two are partition walls (as indicated"in red"on the attached
copy of the original First Floor architectural plan). The following steps are required to
remove the existing bearing wall:
1. Remove and replace existing bearing wall and headers with a new 3'/2" x 18"
1.9E Microllam LVL beam.
2. Fasten the new LVL beam to the existing adjacent floor truss with IOd
common nails @ 3-inches on center to all chords and webs of truss.
3. Install a minimum of(3) 2x4 No.2 SYP studs at each end of new LVL beam.
4. Strap each end of beam to the stud group below with (2) Simpson MSTA36.
5. Connect each stud group to the concrete foundation below with(1) Simpson
HTT16 with a minimum I/z" drilled and epoxied anchor bolt.
Please see the attached plan diagram and notes for further clarity and coordination.
It should be noted that the contractor is responsible for all temporary shoring and bracing
during the construction and renovation process.
Should you have any further questions or require any additional information, please call.
Thank you,
