Make s,xre to interlock all tongue and groove joints securely. Place insulation as close as possible to- openings and corners where air leaks are likely to occur. when 3/4" foam board is used, corner boards and window facings may be left on the house. When fold-a-foam is used, corners should be removed and the insulation should be wrapped around the corner. 2. Insulation and foil may be stapled if desired. Be sure that staples are firmly set so that insulation will remain in place until the siding is installed. 3. Install J channel around sides and tops of windows and doors, making certain that the channel is laying flat against the wall and straight. The corneas where J channel meets should be mitred by cutting the end of the horizontal Piece at a 45 degree angle and notching it to fit snugly against the vertical piea~e. window sill extensions and header extensions; on windows and doors should be cut off so J channel can be installed flush with the castings. Channel should be nailed in the factory slots every 12 inches. Do not nail tight. If window and/or door facings are to be covered with ooilstocc, this should be done before installing the J channel. 4. Install finish trim under all windows, nailing the slots every 12 inches. It may be necessary to furr out under the window to maintain proper slope of the panel. 5. Install outside corner poets on all outside corners, Making certain that the corner is plumb and that it is not twisted. The corner should be placed in Position allowing 1/4" clearance at the top. Nail at the top. of the upper slot. All other nails should be nailed in the center of the nailing slots. The corner should extend no more than 1/4" below the bottom of the siding. Corners may be extender] futher down until the siding is run and then cut off flush with the bottom of the siding. If the wall height requires the use of more than one corner, the shorter piece should be used at the top, and should be lapped over the bottom piece. Inside corners are made by using two pieces of 3/4" J channel. One piece should be placed squarely into the comer, and the second should fit flush against the first. 6. To establish the starting point for siding installation, locate the lowest corner • of the house. Measure dam from the save and/or windows to a point appr+cacimately 10" above the bottom of the existing siding, than measure an equal distance doom to the next ecrner on that wall. This insures that the siding appears level with the windows and/or eaves, regardless of any actual setting of the house. Stretch a chalk line between these two points, checking to besure that the line is taut and straight before popping a line. Repeat this p=aws all around the house, making necessary adjustments until all lines meet at every corner. In the case of extrema settling, "splittling the difference" miry be necessary to achieve proper alignment around the house. 7. Install starter strip using chalk lines as guides. If the bottom of the starter strip Extends more than two inches below the existing siding, use oedar shingles to start the siding ,in those places. Extreme care must be takers in using shingles not to lock panels too tightly,.thus making the shape of the shingle obvious after siding is installed. If the drop--exoeeds 6" xou:ebou].d rengve the bottom panel of the existing siding and rip 3/4" pl to fit the needed drop. I wood touches the ground, you mist tsae cssdar ' wolmanized pine. Starter strip can then be nailed to the plywood. ,MAY.15.2003 9:26AM PATTERSON HOME IMPRO NO.371 P.2i4 q o rto . :It is extremely important that the starter strip be straight and meet accurately at all oorners. This will insure that the siding panels will bang straight and that they will meet 'accurately at the corners. Nail :starter strip in center of nailing slots every 12". Keep ends of ,successive starter strips at least 1/4" apart to allow for expansion. Careful planning at the time of installing the starter strip can insure that the proper finish can be acaanplished at the top of the wall. The top panel should have at least a 1-3/4" allowance from the bottom or butt to the top. 8. The first siding panel is lacked on starter strip or cedar shingles, but should not be pulled up too tight. Panels should be hung in place by hailing into the center of the nailing slots at least every 18". Mails should always be driven str4ght and level, never slanted up or dawn. Never nail panels tight and never use staples on siding install- ation. Nails should be long enough to extend through the nailing flange and the insulation and have sufficient penetration into the wood siding below. When nailing into "soft" wood siding it will be necessary to locate the studs, and nail into those in order to ensure that the nails will not pull out. Do not force the panels up or down when nailing in position. The panels should not be under vertical tension or compression when nailed. Siding is hung on the wall, not nailed to the wall. 9. When cutting vinyl siding with a power saw, use a fine tooth blade mounted in reverse position or saw can be pulled backwards. NEVER use a power saw to cut steel siding, us snipe or a siding "chopper" only. 10. Allow for expansion and contraction by leaving 1/4" gap in all corner posts and channels. Overlap panels aln=x imatel<y cnehalf of the factory pre-notched ends. stagger and laps-at least 30" apart so that one is not directly above the other, unless separated by three Courses. Always overlap joints away from antranoes and from the point of the greatest traffic. Check every 3rd or 4th course for proper aligamt. Ares 12 feet and less should never have splices, and pieces less than 3 feet should never be used as'starters or finishers. Eq=w only the manufactured edges of panels. 11. Remove all objects that are attached to the well before installing siding. Re-install, these objects iimiadiately aitw covering the spat . were attached. Drill holes through the siding, using a larger bit than the screw or nail to be used so that it will not cause the panel to buckle when expansion and contraction occurs. 12. Wren fitting panels under windows, cut the section out for an accurate fit. F= under the window if needed to maintain proper alignment, and slide -top of cut into finish trim. Be aura to allow 1/4" on either We, of cut, to allow for expansion and contraction.. •c MAY.15.2003 9:27AM PATTERSON HOME IMPRO NO.371 P.3i4 12. When fitting panels under windows, cut the section out for an accurate fit. Purr under the window if needed to maintain proper alignment, and slide top of out into finish trim. Be sure to allow 1/4" on either side Of cut to allow for expansion and contraction. 13. To insure a _proper fit for the top course, cut the last page-1 so that it will cover the remaining open section. Use a snap lock punch to punch flaps 1/2" below top edge of the panel. Punch flaps every 1011: Install finish trim under the eave to receive the trimmed panel. It may be necessary to fury the finish trim slightly to maintain proper alignment and to insure a secure lock. slide the top panel into the finish trim soithat all flaps penetrate beyond the return lip on the finish trim. Never face nail through the vinyl siding panel to hold it in place because this will cause it to buckle when it expands-and contracts. Top panels that exceed 4 feet in length may be faced.faced nailed with one color matching trim nail. Use only one and place it in the center of the panel Do-not nail to tight. 14. When top finishing in a gable, install 3/4" J channel along the bottom of the rake board. The siding is cut at the appropriate angle and installed . in the channel, allowing 1/4" for expansio. The top-triangle in a gable-may be faced nailed 1" below the top point using a matching color trim nail. The nail should not be driven tight. 15. When a gable vent is to be covered, use matching color vented soffit material installed vertically. Channel around. the vent with 1/2" J channel and cut panels to fit accurately into-the configuration of- the vent. 16.When outside turners exist on tops of porches, use 3/4" J channel to receive the siding from each direction. Do not leave a gap betwean the two pieces of J channel. Do not use outside corner posts. 17. If the bottom of a panel has to be triamed for alignment before it is installed above a poach or on a gable end, use 3/4" J channel under the panel to give it a finished appearance. 18. Never use any siding panel that is less than 30" long unless it inside a smaller opening, 19. When installing siding ascend electrical be and meters, cut panels accurately for a snyg fit, allowing for expansion. Using color matched caulking, caulk the gap•neatly. Do not use J channel.. 20. Keep hands as clean as possible during application. To clean use a soft cloth or damp sponge dipped in mild detergent solution. Tghly clean the siding as it is installed and•check at the and of the job to be sura all dirt has been-removed. 21. Critical points to remember: --Nail panels to center of slot ` —Do not nail tight; let panel hang --louver use staples --Dc# not face nail -Neave 1/4" clearance to all openings and stop for expansion and contractions r CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH APPLICATION FOR PLUMBING PERMIT JOB LOCATION: Cuv 1tw OWNER OF PROPERTY: TEL. aZ o- 7 0 93 PLUMBING CONTRACTOR: N "S r l ' c` CONTRACTOR'S ADDRESS: / 2f113 SAY" ='>`, 6'i, C, 3a YO' STATE LICENSE NUMBER: TEL.
