Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, August 24, 2010
Adele Grage Cultural Center Theater
6:00 p.m.
Present: Lori Gaglione (chair), Meade Coplan, Jolyn Johnson, Tammy Lally, Carolyn McCarthy, Jeff
Wight with Liaison Timmy Johnson and Karen Kempf recording. Absent: Cris Garrard, Lynne
Roskein.
1. Call to order -
a. Chair Lori Gaglione called the meeting to order at 6:01.
2. Approval of Minutes
a. The meeting minutes from July 27, 2010 were reviewed by the committee. Meade
moved to accept the minutes as written; Tammy seconded the motion. The
committee approved the minutes unanimously.
3. Ongoing Business
a. Events, Updates, Reports
i. Songwriters' Concert & Acoustic Night - Timmy reported that 68 people
attended Songwriter's Concert and that Acoustic Night had to move indoors
due to rain.
ii. Lagniappe Nights! - Meade reported that Lagniappe had approximately 20
people at the last event and that the topics are very interesting.
MidWeek Market- Jeff is reopening the market on September 15 with food
and music. He is working on a webpage with Karen to list the vendors and
foods. He will not be adding additional vendors this year.
iv. Art Walk & exhibits - Karen reported that Judith Stanyard is incoming artist
and Meade and Sherri Beano offered to host the evening.
v. Artisan Holiday Fair - Volunteers are needed to help serve beverages at the
event. Also to help clean -up at the end. The number of artists may be
reduced. This year only serving wine, dessert and cheese.
vi. Status of Volunteer Hours- Timmy will call CARAC members to get
volunteer hours for the year. Please turn in hours.
vii. Public Art Proposal - Jolyn mentioned that the Public Art proposal missed
the City Commission meeting agenda.
4. New Business
a. Arts in the Park - Jolyn reported that she and Lori are reviewing Kathy Frosio's
work to select one of her canvases for the poster.
b. Teen Council - Lori asked the committee for input on the Teen Council adult
sponsor and vacant CARAC committee position. Should the CARAC sponsor be a
member of CARAC? Or should the position be open to any citizen and not tied to
the Teen Council? After the committee discussed the pros and cons, Jeff moved to
recommend that the Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee have the
vacant seat filled by a citizen. Tammy seconded the motion and the committee
unanimously approved the recommendation.
5. Other Agenda Items /Announcements
a. The committee liked meeting at 6 pm instead of 7 pm. The committee decided to
continue to meet at 6 pm for the next two meetings and then decide if they would
like to meet earlier on a permanent basis.
b. The committee will meet September 28, 6 p.m. at Adele Grage.
6. Adjournment - With no further business, Jolyn moved to adjoin the meeting. Tammy
seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at
6:35 p.m.
