All exterior stairways must be a minimum of 31 -811 wide. Their railings must be a minimum of 31 -0t1 high and have no openings therein larger than 611. 2. Exterior doors must be at least 31 -Oft wide, and since they are within six feet of the exterior stairs , they must be one-hour fire-rated and be equipped with self-closers. If glazed, they must be so with wired glass . 3. Fire extinguishers must be provided as noted on the plans. 4. Heaters must maintain a minimum of 68°F in the units. They must have non-combustible floors under them at the second floor. 5. Stairway lights should be on house panel, burning at all times of darkness , but since in this case they are semi- private, they may be controlled with a three-way switch oper- able from either apartment. 6. The side walls of the building , lying within fifteen feet of the property line, must have 1811 parapets , or else the roof must be sloped at least 4 :12. 8. The stair railings must extend at least to the last nosing at the bottom of the run. 9. The minimum ceiling height permitted is 81 -011, thus first floor height must be increased from 71 -611 to 81 -011 . 10. Stair landings must be at least 31 -811 wide.
