iv. Artisan Fair - Lynne passed around the flyer created by Linda Olsen, the featured
artist for November. The Faire will have dessert, wine and decorations, with white
lights outside the building.
v. Public Art Proposal - Jolyn announced that the proposal for public art was
approved by the City Commission. The next step is to put together a contract (who
does and supplies what) and application and then put a call out to artists. Jolyn
spoke with Paul Parsons who suggested that the project work in conjunction with
the City Public Arts committee for help with fundraising and grants.
vi. Arts in the Park - Jolyn said that Lynne will make the artist map so artists can
choose a space or Lynne will assign spaces. Musicians are beginning to volunteer
to play at the event.
4. New Business
a. New Programs Mayport Corridor - Dale Hatfield spoke to the committee about possible
programs in the Mayport Corridor. He would like to have programs for the hearts and
minds of grandparents raising kids and cultural programs for children. Carolyn Woods
will get with Dale about starting an art program.
b. MarshFest - John November related to the committee that the Marsh Preservation Society
decided not to do the MarshFest this year, 2010, but to plan for an event in 2011. He
estimated that the City would need $20,000 for plans for the River Branch and marshland
master plan. He suggested that the Marsh Preservation Society work with CARAC and
volunteers to plan the event for next year. Commissioner Daugherty said he would like to
see the MarshFest continue as a west Mayport community event. A discussion followed
regarding an increased role of the City and CARAC in regard to vendors, food, kayak trips,
art, and music at the event. Partnership, support, coordination, or relinquishing event - -
whose event would this be? The committee asked John for a written proposal addressing
these questions. John said he will draft a proposal and email it to Timmy and Timmy will
send it out to the committee for review for the next meeting.
c. Beaches Area Historical Society - Leigh Broward from the Beaches Historical Society and
Beaches Museum related some of the activities of the society and museum. The City
Commission suggested that he make his request to CARAC for a $12,000 donation to
support the continuing operation and staffing of the museum. The Cultural Arts does not
have money in this year's budget to support the Beaches Museum. Leigh asked the
committee to make a recommendation to the City Commission to support the Beaches
Museum. The committee will take up this discussion again at the next meeting.
d. Tennis Proposal - Tammy and Lori proposed an AB City tennis tournament for Nov. 5, 6, 7
- a fall classic that would be held at Russell and Donner Park courts. Go Pro and Selva
Marina offered to sponsor and advertise the event. If the committee decides to support
this proposal as a City event, then the event would have insurance and publicity to help
the event get off the ground. After discussion, Jolyn moved that CARAC support the
proposal for a City of Atlantic Beach Inaugural Fall Classic Tennis Championship on
November 5, 6, 7. Lynne seconded the motion and the committee unanimously approved
the recommendation to move forward with the event.
