Gates applied for and received a permit from Atlantic Beach sometime in late June or early July, 2006. Plans were for the roof to be replaced in July. That failed. I was told that the materials were not in. We rescheduled the job to begin on September 22 when I would again be out of town. I was told by Mr. Gates that the metal roofing material was in and stored in their warehouse. Gates removed the roof on or about September 26 and placed felt over the structure but then advised that the wrong roofing color was sent and had to be reordered. Upon my return I had a discussion with Matthew Gates, the owner of Gates Roofing Empire. I was assured that the metal roofing would be placed on my home beginning on October 10, 2006 - again, when I would be away from home and, thus, not disturbed by the noise. I called Mr. Gates on October 6, and October 9 to confirm these plans. Mr. Gates returned my call on October 9 and advised me that he had made a mistake and had put down the wrong date and that the roofing would have to once again be postponed. I contacted A 1 A Roofing and made arrangements for them to install an architectural shingle roof on my home. I contacted Gates Roofing and advised them that they were fired and off the job. I requested that they rescind the Atlantic Beach permit that was granted earlier. To my knowledge Gates has not done so. I request that you grant a permit to Al A Roofing to place a roof on my house as quickly as possible. My house stands with nothing more than a felt covering with some patches of tarpaulin and I am quite concerned about damage that could result to the entire structure if this matter is not resolved quickly.
