CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH
Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, October 26, 2010
Adele Grage Cultural Center
6:00 p.m.
Present: Lori Gaglione (chair), Jolyn Johnson, Tammy Lally, Carolyn McCarthy, Lynne Roskein, and Jeff Wight
Liaison Timmy Johnson and Karen Kempf (recording). Guests: Lisa Kamm and Eric Pardee
Absent: Meade Coplan, Cris Garrard.
1. Call to order -Chair Lori Gaglione called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. Lisa Kamm, the
newly appointed Teen Council advisor was introduced to the committee along with Eric
Pardee.
2. Approval of Meeting Minutes - The committee reviewed the September 28, 2010 and two
corrections were made. Tammy motioned to accept the minutes as corrected and Jolyn
seconded the motion. The minutes were approved as corrected.
3. Ongoing Business
a. Events, Updates, Reports
i. Songwriters' Concert & Acoustic Night - Timmy reported that the
Songwriters' Concert was full. Acoustic Nights will resume in March 2011.
ii. Lagniappe - Karen reported that the October Halloween themed event had
approximately 25 attendees and presenters. Meade is considering
cancelling the December program since the theater is not available.
iii. Mid -Week Market- Jeff reported that the previous market had
approximately 100 people vs. the previous 200 the week before. It's
unpredictable with weather and establishing regular shoppers. But people
who come really like it and with the music and kids playing, the market has
a good feeling.
iv. Holiday Artisans' Faire - Lynne requested volunteers to help at the event.
Jolyn, Lori and Carolyn will help. The Faire will be advertised the week
before the event.
v. Arts in the Park - the deadline for the first round of applications is Monday.
Jolyn has 40 applications to date.
vi. Public Art Call to Artists - Jolyn is working with Timmy on getting an
application together. A suggestion was made to use decal art instead of
paint The lift stations are city owned and artists can start there first.
vii. Tennis Championship - Timmy and Patrick are working together to get the
application out. Sponsors are offering prizes and gifts for participants. Lori
requested that the information and application be sent out to committee
members to forward on and get the word out.
viii. Beaches Area Historical Society -the committee discussed the Beaches
Historical Society request for $12,000. The committee does not have
money in their budget to offer support. Carolyn moved that the committee
deny the Beaches Historical Society request for funds; Jolyn seconded the
motion and the committee unanimously voted not to fund BHS this year.
ix. Holiday Sing -Along - Timmy asked for a volunteer to help continue the
Sing -along as a CARAC event again this year. Tammy said that she would
meet with Timmy and help continue the event. Lori offered to help as
needed.
x. MarshFest 2010/11- Timmy did not receive a proposal from the John or
the MarshFest coordinators on moving the Marshfest to a City or joint
event. Jeff thought a 5K run would be an attraction and might coordinate
that with his students. The committee did not believe it could take on the
event in 2011 but would be interested in participating and learning more
about the event from the MarshFest
4. New Business
a. After- school arts program - Carolyn is meeting with Dale and Gail for Friday
programs at Donner and Jordan. First program will be on Dec. 3rd and 10th.
b. City is looking at a possible facebook page. Beaches Town Center currently has a
page. Timmy will follow -up with the City Manager to see what happens. Currently,
facebook is blocked on City computers.
5. Other Agenda Items /Announcements
a. The committee decided on a joint Nov /Dec meeting on December 7. The Nov. 23 and Dec.
28 meetings will be cancelled.
b. The committee also decided to move their meeting time to 6 pm on a permanent basis.
6. Adjournment - With no further business, Lynne moved to adjourn the meeting and
Tammy seconded the motion. The Committee adjourned at 7:04 p.m.
