CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA HELD AT THE CITY HALL ON MONDAY,
DECEMBER 30TH, 1957 AT 8 P.M.

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor-Commissioner,
Mr. Howell, and went into session for Public Hearing on
Ordinance No. 10.57.1 being an Orainance regulating the hours
for the sale of alcoholic: and intoxicating beverages. Said
Ordinance having been read in full, Mr. Howell called for
any discussion or anyone wishing to be heard. Mro Moore
moved that 1958 be inserted after January 1st on line 18
of Section 1. There was no second. Mr. Lincoln Fox spoke
requesting the Commission to make the change as expressed
in Mr. Moore 's motion, since the Christmas Day closing was
not made a part of this 0rdinanee and therefore is not binding
on the bar owners. Mr. Howell advised that it is his intention
for the Commission to further amend this Ordinance to include
the Christmas Day closing, but there was not time to make this
amendient and pass the Ordinance for the New Year closing. He
stated for the record that he, alae, negotiated with the bars
about closing on Christmas Day and remaining open the 2 extra
hours on New Year 's morning. Mr. Marvin moved that the Ordinance
#10-57-1 be adopted on second and final reading as written.
The motion was seconded by Mr. Roberts. There was further dis-
cussion In which Mr. A.J. Craig advised that the Ordinance does
not show the bargain Mr. Johansen advised that he felt it was
more important for the bars to remain closed on Chriatmas Day,
as they had, and be allowed to remain open the extra 2 hours on
New Years Evefl Mr. Marvin and Mr. Roberts advised they felt it
was much ado about 2 hours, as the Commission can amend this
Ordinance to include the Christmas Day closing at a later time.
The question was nailed, and the VLayor greeted that a call
vote be made which vote was as follows.

Whereupon the Mayor declared said motion carried and said Ordinance
#10-57-1 adopted on second and final reading.
Prior to the Public Hearing, Mro A.J. Craig spoke on behalf of
Beaches Civil Defense, of which he is the Director, and invited
those present to a meeting at 8 P.M. Tuesday, January 14, 1958
at the Community Center for the purpose of re-organizing the
Cibii Defense at the Beaches and also the Disaster Committee of

the American Red Cross. He urged all who could to be present,
as they had tried to make the meeting on a night when there
were no Council or Commission meetings.
