06-09-53 v MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING OF THE ATLANTIC BEACH
TOWN COUNCIL HELD AT THE TOWN HALL ON TUESDAY, JUNE 9th, 1953
AT 8 P.M.

The meeting was called to order by the President, Mr. Adams.
Minutes of the regular meeting of May 12th, 1953 were read,
and upon motion of Mr. Thames, seconded by Mr. Weiss were
approved.
Minutes of the Adjourned meeting of May 26th, 1953 were read
and upon motion of Mr. Weiss, seconded by Mr. Thames were
approved.
Minutes of the special meeting of June 1st, 1953 were read
and approved on motion of Mr. Minchew, seconded by Mr. Marvin.
There was no report on the Ed Smith subdivision.
There was a discussion of the water rates on the customers
taken over from Neptune Beach and it was the ooncensus of
opinion that rates be the same as covered by our present
Ordinance with the exception of the 1" meter which should
be $54. per year minumum for 240,000 gals. with same excess
rates as listed in present Ordinance. Mr. Thompson is to
prepare amending Ordinance.
Ordinance #155 covering Garbage Collection Fees was read
by the Clerk and upon motion of Mr. Weiss, seconded by Mr.
Thames it was passed on third and final reading. Under
Commercial "E" the time is 6 months, and under Section 4
"30 days" is to be inserted for delinquency time.
The matter of telephone franchise will be studied and
considered later.
Mr. Brotchie reported that there was not as much muck on
the Plaza as anticipated, but that it was good. Also there
will not have to be as much fill, and our cost will be less.
McCormick has not started the filling but expect to in next
few days.
There was no report on the Planning Board at this time.
A request was presented from the Beaches Civic Chorus for an
ad in their current program, and upon motion of Mr. Weiss,
seconded by Mt. Thames it was tabled.
Mrs. R.S. McAdam of Neptune Beach presented the Town with the
flag which was used at the funeral of her husband, the late
Lieut. Robt. S. McAdam, U.S.C.G. Upon motion of Mr. Thames,
seconded by Mr. Minchew the flag was accpeted and the Town Clerk
was directed to write Mrs. McAdam and express our appreciation.
Wade Hicks' resignation effective June 15th, 1953 was read,
• and uppn motion of Mr. Thames, seconded by Mr. Weiss was accepted
with regrets.
Upon motion of Mr. Weiss, seconded by Mr. Thames, approval was
given to the hiring of Mr. James Selph on a monthly basis to
serve as maintenance man and deputy police. On Maintenance work
he is to be under Mr. Brotchie, and as deputy police under the Mayor
at a salary not to exceed $300. per month.
