01-08-51 v MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING OF THE ATLANTIC BEACH TOWN COUNCIL
HELD AT THE TOWN HALL ON MONDAY, JANUARY 8th, 1951 AT 8 P.M.

The meeting was called to order by the President, Mr. Gerry Adams.
Minutes of the regular meeting of December 71, 1950 were read and
upon motion of Mr. Mason, seconded by Mr. Thames were approved.
Mr. Adams recognized visitors present and called for any business
from the Floor.
Mr. J.T. McCormick presented the dredging plan to be done by the Navy
at Mayport and the jetty channel, and advised that in Section 2 of this
dredging project there would be 1,000,000 cubic yards of spoil which
if done by hydraulic dredge could be stock piled on the beach and in
411 shallow water just south of and adjacent to the South Jetty, and would
be very valuable to the beaches on the erosion problem. He believes
that if a letter could be written to the four contractors bidding on
this work assuring them that the Town would hot raise any objections
or start imjuriction proceedings should there be a slight discoloration
in the water caused at the time by the dredging , that tete successful
contractor might consdder stock piling. Mr. McCormick advised that he
had been out on a testing trip, and that very small amount of clay was
found. The dredging is to be done before the summer season starts.
There was discussion and upon motion of Mr. Mason, seconded by Mr. Thames
approval was given for writing the letters as requested.
Mr. Brotchie advised that he has had no more definite information on
the Atlantic Blvd. ramp.
Mr. Brotchie had a conference with the Texan Company men from Atlanta
relative to the alley back of their property, but has not had any
information from them to date.
There was a discussion of the 6" water pipe and Mr. Brotchie advised
that he has obtained quotations as follows:
410 Central Foundry Co. - Universal Pipe - $1.72 ft. net F.O.H.
Factory- price includes bolts & washers
American Cast Iron Pipe Co. - $1.46 per foot (bell & Spigot)
Fittings - $232. net ton,FOB-Atlantic
Beach
Jas. B. Ulow & Sons - National- $1.52 per ft. ( B & S )
Sittings- $242. net ton.
F.O.B. Foundry.
The price, type of pipe, delivery dates, etc. were discussed at length,
and Nr. Adams suggested that City of Jacksonville, and other users of
Universal pipe be contacted for their experience with that type pipe
before placing any order. Upon motion of Mr. Thames, seconded by Mr. Mason
approval was given for the purchase of 250C to 3000 feet of 6" pipe as
soon as possible, and leave to the decision of the Public Works Committee
with Mr. Brotchie to decide on how much and the kind after investigation
and study.
Upon motion of Mr. Mason, seconded by Mr. Thames the Town Clerk was authorized
to return the $5.00 fine to Carl Florence as stipulated by the Judge cn
111 ticket #C-394 providing the conditions of the 90 day probation as carried
out.
A letter was read from the City of Jacksonville Beach requesting
the Town tocontribute to the cost of maintenance to keep the
Neon directional sign at Kings Ave. and Atlantic Blvd. in operation
at all times. This sign reads A-1-A to Jacksonville Beaches. The
coast for present repairs caused by the storm will be $35.00 and the
maintenance contract for 3 years will be $12.50 per month. There was •
a discussion and upon motion of Mr. Thames, seconded by Mr, mason,
the Town Clerk was directed to write Jacksonville Beach advising our
willingness to co=operate, and requesting that they let us know what
is considered our equitable part of the cost of maintenance.
The Treasurer's report was presneted and upon motion of Mr. Thames,
seconded by Mr. Mason was approved. The balances were as follows:

Upon motion of Mr. Mason, seconded by Mr. Thames approval was given for
payment of $15.00 expense to Mr. Brotchie to cover trip to Gainesville
to discuss water samples, etc. with the Labratory there.
Mr. Mason brought to the attention of the Council the fact that due to
the work to be done by the Navy at Mayport there will he additional building
and he wondered if anything could be done to protect fpiropertjr'ownere as to ,
types of houses in the Town. He wants us to do everything possible to
uphold the usual standard of construction. There was a discussion •

was agreed that we do not want to let down at all on our present require-
ments.
