COUNCIL HELD AT THE TOWN HALL ON MONDAY , MAY 30th, 1949 AT
$ P.M.

The meeting was called to order by the President , Mr. Ganeel,
who called for the Public Hearing on the re-Zoning of Lot 6,
Block 11 to allow a two-story secondary building, in line with
notice in Florida Times Union (certified proof of publication
attached hereto . This property is owned by Mr. and Mrs. H.A.
Holcomb who were present . There were no objections, sou on
motion of Mr. Masonseconded by Mr. Kirby, An Ordinance #124
Amending Zoning Ordinance #50 by allowing two story secondary
building on this Lot 6, Block 11 was passed on third and final
reading.
Dr. Scott presented to Council a request to-gether with petition
from adjoining property owners , to permit him to make a 14ft .
addition to the rear of his present house , which would leave
only 25 feet rear space between house and back property line.
There vas a discussion of this , and upon motion of Mr. Mason,
seconded by Mr. Bremer An Ordinance to permit this addition
to the house on Lot 1, Block 24 was passed on 1st reading. Upon
motion of Mr. Mason, seconded by Mr. Bremer, it was passed on
second reading. The Building Inspector was instructed t o call
for a Public Hearing on June 20th, 1949.
The Mayor advised that he and Mr. Kirby had interviewed Mr.
S .C . Clark for deputy Town Marshall. Mr. Clark is married,
can live at the beach, hays had 5 years police experience , is
available for June 1st , and will start at $ 175. per mo. It is
their recommendation that he be hired for duty in the daytime ,
and that Mr. Russell,take the night duty . There w as a discussion,
during which Mr. Bremer advised that he did not feel that the
Town needed a full time deputy at this time. Upon motion of
Mr. Mason, seconded by ,Mr. Rawls , it was d scided to hire Mr.
Clark at $175. per mo. beginning June 1st . Mr. Bremer's vote
was "nay" . Mr. Rawls was asked to look into secureing a motor-
cycle for the new man to use and report back his recoim endations
to the next meeting, in the meantime he will use the police car
in the daytime, and Mr. Rulsell will use it at night .
There was a discussion of Mr. Wilcox' s previous letter rea storm
damage repairs , but Mr. Thompson still hasn't received a ruling
from Judge O'Neil on the Storm Damage suits , and w e therefore
cannot give him any more information to date . 1'Ir. Ganzel
asked that Mr. Rawls make a survey and report what he thinks
can be done to protect Mir. Wilcox and an estimate of cost.
A request was received from Atlantic Beach Deve.opi.ent Co.
to re :Zone the unplatted strip between Block 4 and Sherry Drive
and 2nd and 3rd streets from Residence "B" to Residence "A-1" .
There was a discussion of the matter and upon motion of Mr.
Bremer, seconded by Mr. Kirby an Ordinance Amending the Zoning
Ord. #50 was passed on 1st reading, upon motion of Mr. Bremer,
seconded by Mr. Kirby, it was passed on 2nd reading. The Building
Inspector was instructed to call for Public Hearing on June 20, 1949 .
Mr. Ganzel appointed Mr. Bremer and Mr. Mason as a committee to
search out a playground spot , which will be large enough for
the boys to play ball. It was suggested that something might
be worked out with the School Board for the use of the Atlantic
Beach School grounds.
Mr. Bremer reminded the Council and Town Officials of the
Dedication of the Colored Playground to held Tuesday night ,
May 31st tinder the auspices of the Negro Chamber of Commerce
of the Beaches , to which all are invited.
Upon motion of Mr. Kirby, the meeting adjourned from day to
day.

Mihutes of the Adjourned Meeting of the Atlantic Beach Town
Council held at the Town Hall at 9:30 P.M. on Monday, May 30th,
1949/
There was a discussion of the ihstailation of the pump and the
good work done by Mr. LeRoy Johnson in making this installation.
It was brought out that we should at least re-imburse him for
expenses incurred during the installation, and upon motion of
Mr. Rawls, seconded by Mr. Bremer the Town Clerk was authorized
to re-imburse Mr. Johnson in amount of $100.
Appreciation was expressed for the Signal lights now in operation
and upon motion of Mr. Rawls , seconded by Mr. Mason a letter is
to be written to Mr. R.D. Sutton, City Commissioner thanking
him for the help given thru their Traffic Bureau by working
with Mr. Johnson on the traffic lights , and also offering to
par for expenses incurred .
It was unanimously agreed that B.B. McCormick & Sons be paid
30% of their balance on the Seawall Emergency bill and the Town
Clerk was so instructed.
Mr. Bremer moved adjournment from day to day.
