01-09-45 vMINUTES OF THE REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING OF THE ATLANTIC B?ACH TOWN COUNCIL HELD AT THE TOWN HALL , TUESDAY, 8 P.M. , JANUARY 9 , 1945. Present : James A. Cranford E.L. Chiasson E .L. Jones Beale Travis Don E. Goodling, Councilmen and G.L. Rosborough, Mayor C .R. Frazier, Town Supervisor The meeting was held after postponement from day to day from January 2nd , 1945. James P . Cranford, President , culled the meeting to order. The minutes of the meeting of December 5th, 1944 were read , and upon motion of E.L. Jones , seconded by Peale Travis they were approved. E.L. Jones reported that he had talked to P.3? Mc- Cormick & Sons and they advised him that they were contacting and Juotinc the pnoperty owners direct on fixing the damage done by the storm. Mr. Rosborourt presented u re west from Mr. Carter Huff asking if the Town would repair the damage to 14th street to conform to the plan as considered by the proper- ty owners in that block. After some discussion, the Council decided to table the oceanfront matter for the time being. Mr. Cranford reported that Mr. Williams had request- ed tac statements to date and that Mr. Howell , Jr. thinks that perhaps this may be collected without pressing the suit . C .C . Howell , Jr. also advised Mr. Cranford that we take no steps towards collecting the delinquent street assessments other than the routine collection letters. Mr. Floyd Hostetter presented to the Council the matter of memberships in the Jacksonville Beaches Chamber of Commerce. After discussion, and upon motion of E .L. Jones seconded by Beale Travis 10 memberships were taken. Upon motion of E.L. Chiasson, seconded by E .L. Jones the Treasurer's report was approved. Upon motion of Beale Travis , seconded by E.L. Jones it was decided that due to extenuating circumstances the S. S. Blondheim tax statement be rendered for payment without pen- alties us presented by the Tax Collector. The President registered a vote of "no" . The, e was much discussion relative to the condition of streets , and the Town Supervisor was asked to find a con- crete mixer , if Possible , and remedy the conditions of the streets as much as possible . Beale Travis suggested that the mayors of the three beaches get to-gether and see if more oil could be secured for the residents . Mr. Rosborough advised that this had already been done , and there just isn ' t any more available than we are getting now. C.R. Frazier , Town Supervisor , suggested that a resolution be sent i-he family of Lieut . John J. Ahern , Jr. Upon motion of E.L. Jones seconded by Don E. Goodling the foliwoing resolution was unanimously adopted: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TONN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF ATLANTIC BEACH , FLORIDA: that NHEFEAS the ravages of war having taken the life of another of Atlantic Beach ' s fine young men, Lieut . John J. Ahern, Jr. on December 16th, 1944, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and the members of the Town Council of the said Town of Atlantic Beach , Florida , that on behalf of the official family and the citizens , heartfelt sympathy is extended to his bereaved loved ones, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolu- tion be sent to the family of Lieut . Ahern , and that a copy be spread on the minutes of the Town Council . Approved by: G.L. Rosborough May or Attest: Adele S. Grage Tpwn Clerk Upon motion of Beale Travis , seconded by E.L. Chiasson the delinquent date for garbage assessment col- lection was extended to January 31 , 1945 , the 10% discount to be in effect until the delinquent date . L.L. Jones reported to the Council that the School Trustees for District 5 have planned improvements to the grounds at Fletcher High School and requested the co-operation_ of the council which was unanimously given . Mr. Frazier reported to the Council that the Garbage truck was badly in need of numerous and costly repairs. The mutter was referred to the Public Works Committee to determine if truck should be repaired , or suggest what action should be taken. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
