11-06-45 v MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING OF THE ATLANTIC BEACH TOWN COUNCIL HELD AT THE TOWN HALL ON TUESDAY , NOVEMBER 6th, 1945 at 6 P.M. PPE SENT: JAMES A. CRANFORD, PRESIDENT E.L. CHIASSON BEALE TRAVIS E.L. JONES DON GOODLING, COUNCILMEN and G.L. ROSBOROUGH , Mayor FRANK THOMPSON , Town Attorney C .R. FRAZIER, Town Supervisor ADELE S. GRAGE , Town Clerk The meeting was called to order by the President , James A. Cranford. Upon motion of E.L . Jones, seconded by Beale Travis the minutes dv .re approved as read. The annual audit was presented by Mr. O.G. Curtis , and upon motion of E.L. Chiasson, seconded by E.L. Jones audit was accepted, and Clerk instructed to »ay the auditor's bill . The Greig case is still pending and Mr. Russell was instructed to bring case to court is permission to inspect pre- mises and close case was not received immediately. The matter of the 10% tax levy on elextric current to consumer was discussed at length. Mr. Frazier advised that he had talked to Mr. Pierce on this subject. Mr . Thompson ex- plained some of the various angles to be considered in connec- tion with collection of tax , who can collect the tax, and other businesses that would have to be taxed under the same ordinance . It was decided that Mr. Thompson should arrange a meeting be- tween Jacksonville Utilities Officials , and Atlantic Beach offi- cials to discuss this matter further. Mr. Frazier advised that the Street lights had been installed, and repairs made to others where needed. Upon motion of E.L. Chiasson, seconded by E.L. Jones the Treasurer's report was approved as read. Upon motion of Beale Travis, seconded by E.L. Curtis (Auditor) 200.00 1874.63 Communication was read from the Atlantic -Neptune P.T.A. thanking the Town for the work that was done on the school yard. A letter was read from the Presbyterian Church relative to a sidewalk on Sherry Drive , but this this is a County road, the Town hus no obligation in the matter. The letter was turned over to Mr. Goodling who was to convey the information to the Chtrch. The Council approved the charging of 1943 taxes against Lot 2, Block 24 to the surplus account duo to the Tax Collector having certified this as paid, in error. C .R. Frazier presented his report which was read and filed. A letter was read from Mr. Geode Bull relative to the increase in Saltair taxes. Mr. Frazier advised that he had talked to several parties relative to a watasworks for the colored section, but has not found anyone so far to handle the matter. Mr. Jones was to get with Mr. W.D. Merritt on this matter, than go over their findings with Mr. Frazier. Mr. Frazier recommended Mr. W.D. Merritt as Town Engineer. This recommenda,-ion was referred to the Public Works Committee.
