10-03-44 v MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING OF THE ATLANTIC BEACH TOWN COUNCIL HELD AT THE TOWN HALL, TUESDAY, 8 P.M. OCTOBER 3FD, 1944. Present : James t . Cranford E.L. Chiasson Beale Travis E.L. Jones Don E . Goodling , Councilmen and G .L. Rosborough, Mayor C .R. Frazier The meeting was called to order by the nr...siden , James A. Cranford. The minutes of the Special Meeting of September 19th, 1944 were read and approved. Mr. Russell reported that the sale of the old truck motors did not go through. Mr. Frazier advised that he had seen Mr. Shanks relative to the moving of the light from i-he Plaza to 8th St. He will write the Electric Maintenance Dept in Jacks :nville on this matter. The school sign 1., s been piaced at Atlantic Blvd. and Sherry Drive . Mr. Frazier will see about the notices on the "Hulsey re ,;uest" . At this time the Council went into session as an e-ualizatiod board to receive and hear all com•)laints regard- ing the Prliminary Tax Poll for the your 1944. Communications were read and considered from P.M. Burroughs, Mrs. Alice Stoner, and S.H. Berg. E .L. Chiasson moved that P .M. Burroughs as- sessment remain as listed on the 1944 Preliminary Roll , but for lack of a second the motion went without action. Beale Travis then mowed that the assessment not be raised, seconded' by E .L. Jones. A Roll Call on this motion was as follows; Aye : Travis and Jones , Nay: Chiasson and Cranford. There being no majority the assessment will remain as listed on the 1944 Tax Roll. E.L. Chiasson moved C .R. Stoner assessment remain as listed on 1944 Preliminary Tax Roll , seconded by E.L. Jones and carried. E.L. Jones moved that the S.H . Berg assessment remain us listed on the 1944 Preliminary Tax Roll , seconded by E.L. Chiasson and carried. The Town Clerk was instructed to advise the applicants that their assessments wiuld remain as listed. There being no further complaints adjourned as a Board of E ;ualization and took up matters of ,f further business . Upon motion of T .L. Chiasson, seconded by Beale Travis , an ordinance entitled " To A )nrove and Adopt the Tax Assessment Poll for the year 1944, and to determine and fix the Pate of Taxation and make the Annual Tax Levy of the year 1944" was unanimously passed on third and final readinr_ . A motion by E.L. Jones , seconded by Beale Travis that the payment of 4980. on Seawall Coupelns be apnroved ,was carried , and the Town Clerk was instructed to cancel the. coupons. Upon motion of E.L. Chiasson , seconded by E.L. Jones the Treasurer' s report was a )proved subject to his signature . Upon motion of E.L. Chiasson , secmnded by Beale Travis the following bills were ao»roved for Payment as soon us funds are available : Atlantic Nat . J nes reported to Council on the bad condition of the strOct pavement on Ocean Blvd. north of 10th St. He also reported on what uppcares to be cracks in the Seawall at places north of the Hotel property. "'r. Frazier said he would check on them. Upon motion of L.L. Jones , seconded by ,.L. Chi.usson the sum of S5 was approved for a greeting to be in the Christmas issue of the Beach Reporter for overseas mail- ing.
