11-10-42 v MINUTES OF THE R"GULAR MONTHLY MEETING OF THE ATLANTIC BEACH TORN COUNCIL H^LD AT 8 D. M. NOV. 10, 1942 AT THE TONN HALL. Present: H. G. Isa-cs James A . Cranford Beale Travis The Clerk read the minutes of the meeting of October 13, 1942 which were anoroved as read. The Town Treasurer submitted his usual monthly financial report which was approved and ordered filed. Upom motion of Mr. Travis , seconded by Mr. Cranford , the warrant #4297, dated October 24 , 1942 Issued to Henry G. Isaacs wa= aporoved. Upon motion of Mr. Cranford, seconded by Mr. Travis , the following bills were annroved and ordered Haid: Southern Bell Tel . & Tel . Compton whereby the Town would sell the swill collected at the Atlantic Beach Army Camp to Mr. Comotong for the sum of $20. per week, delivered to the hog nens in Neptune. Each member present voiced approval . Upon motion of Mr. Travis , seconded by Mr. Cranford, the date for the regular monthly meeting of the Town Council ,Was fixed es the First Tuesday 9t 7 : 30 P. M. at the Town Hall . The Clerk read a letter from Mr. John Tischer , in refer- erence to Homestead Exemption. The matter was discussed and the 4104 following resolution introduced by Mr. Travis and seconded by Mr. Cranford, was unanimously adopted: WHEREAS, the Town Council has received a letter from John A. Tischer, owner of lot 12 , Block 40, dated Nov. 7, 1 '42 , stating that he had purchased this property in September 1941 and had made it his home since that time , that he is a bona fide resident of the Town, was such on the 1st day of •Tenuary 1942; that he has no other home on which homestead exemption has been claimed and teat he had made an honest effort to comply with the homestead exemption requirements and that through no fault of his he had technically failed to comply in the Town of Atlantic Beach, end WHEREAS, it has been shown +o the satisfaction of the Town Council of Atlantic Beach that Mr. Tisher would have been grcnted home exemption had he compiled with all of the technical- ities, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA, that the General or regular Taxes assessed against the said John A. Tischer on his Lot 12 , Block 40 , he , and the ,same is , hereby abated, and that the Town Clerk is authorized anddirected to render a nes state- ment , which statement shell show the Town 's Share of Seawall , only , and that the said Town Clerk is authorized and directed 410- to render a new statement , which statement shall show the Town 's Share of Seawall , only, and that the said Town Clerk is authori - zed and directed to receive nayment for the said Town' s share of Seawall as the full amount due for the year 1942 and to issue a receipt in this amount as taxes paid in full for the year 1942. The Clerk read a letter from the Secretary of the House Management Committee of the U. S. 0. at Jacksonville Beach in reference to the retention of the Old U. S. 0. building as sleeping quarters for Service men, the said building being used also by the Medical Division of the Reaches Defense Council as an Emergency Hospital. This matter was discussed at length and it vas the un- animous opinion of the members present that it is to the best interest of the Beach communities that this building he retained further. The Clerk was directed to write a letter to the U. S. 0. House Management Committee setting forth the attitude of the Atlantic Beach Town Council in this matter , namely, that the Atlantic Beach Town Council is strongly in favor of keening this building; that it is felt that ,Jacksonville Beach would 4100 receive far greater benefits from the use thereof and should pay a greater part of the cost but that Atlantic Beach is willing to enter into a pro ration of the bFlance with Neptune , Civic and Religious Organizations and the Defense Council , and that if the Management Committee will advise this Town Council what is expected of Atlantic Beach the matter will he given full consideration at the next Regular meeting of the Council . By unanimous consent the Clerk was authorized and directed to continue to pay the telephone service charge for the County Health Unit at Jacksonville Reach.
