RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
AUGUST 27, 1997
A regular meeting of the Board was held Wednesday, August 27, 1997 in the Adele Grage
Community L enter Meeting Room at 7:23PM.
Present were: Mary McGee Dezmond Waters, Chairman

Chairman Dezmond Waters opened the meeting with a discussion on the Bull Park Proposal Plan.
He informed the Board that the Mayor requested some foliage be put back into the plan.
Dezmond recommends including a merry-go-round.
Patricia is willing to write a letter to back the Mayor on a series of things.
Allen informed the Board that he is a certified playground inspector and safety is very important.
It was mentioned that the Recreation Director received a call from a Professor from the
University of North Florida concerning liability.
Below is a list of recommends the Board would like to see in Patricia's letter.
Barbara made a motion that palm trees, as many as possible, be put on the circumference of the
Park, to replace the hedge. Dezmond seconded, but there was no vote.
Dezmond reworded Barbara's motion to say, the periphery palms be put back so that they
continue around the Park . There was no second, but a unanimous vote.
Dezmond recommends excluding the double line of palms.
Cindy would like to see as much native vegetation as possible.
Restore into the final Park plans the original foliage using native vegetation where possible in
order to reduce maintenance.
Dezmond made a motion to retain a merry-go-round in the Park. Mark seconded and the motion
carried.
Dezmond motioned to include a spring loaded four legged see-saw or lazy-dazy if fesible in the
area of the spring riders. No second, but a vote.
Patricia recommends as much hedge remains as possible.
The Board discussed keeping as much of the center hedge as possible. Mary seconded
Mark motioned to save the hard woods and larger trees.
Dezmond motioned to save several of the lager trees from the original hedge. Barbara seconded.
Patricia recommends excluding the bermuda grass.
** Pete Dowling made a request to perserve the historical trees where possible, consistant with
the research of the Tree Board. Barbara seconded and the motion carried. No second, but a
vote.
Dezmond motioned to find an area around the pavilion to provide more shade/shade trees and
more benches/seating for the comfort of citizens. Barbara second.
Mark made a motion that in the pavilion/memorial area instead of palms there should be a number
of shade trees.
** Pete is not a Board member; therefore he can not make a motion.
