J ~' MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD, NOVEMBER 11, 1993 7:30 pm
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Don Fagan at 7:37 pm. Present were:
Don Fagan, Henry Batts and new member Carol Wright. Guest was Donner Park Program
Director, Gail Baker. Also present, Rose Blanchard, Parks & Recreation Director.
Mrs. Blanchard opened the meeting by informing those present that we once
again have 2 vacancies on the Advisory Board, as Mr. Dutter removed his name from
the roll and Mr. Hank Isaacs has resigned due to time constraints with business, etc.
Carol Wright, new member was introduced to all and the meeting continued.
Mrs. Blanchard asked for suggestions or nominations from the members. All agreed
to submit the following names to the City Commission: Charlie Williams, Gary Santora
and Lynn McManus. Mrs. Blanchard asked the Board members to be present at the next
City Commission meeting of Nov. 22, to be introduced to the new Commission.
Next item on the agenda was the discussion and finalization of the plans for the
Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebrations at BOTH Donner and Jack Russell Park,at the
same time. After much discussion, the plans were finalized and assignments of duties
were completed. All are looking forward to the event, especially in that it is a
FIRST for the Donner Park citizens.
The final item on the agenda solicts comments from the members. The following
is the report of that agenda item.
Gail Baker was asked to elaborate on her success at Donner Park and what she
attributes it to. She stated that giving the children a place to go and interesting
things to do has made all the difference. The parents are pleased to the point of
giving her solid support in all she does. This City owes Gail Baker accalades without
end for how she has truly, "made a difference".
Mrs. Blanchard explained, especially to Carol Wright as a new member, the
Citizens Tree, Giving Tree and Letters to Santa. Details will be submitted to the
local press.
Henry Batts complimented the present Board and expressed confidence in the
Board and its ability to accomplish much.
Mrs. Blanchard informed the members that she plans to ask the new City Commission
to meet with this Board as soon after the holidays as possible in order to set some
goals and solicit their input on what they feel the Recreation Dept. should do in the
future.
Mr. Fagan asked for an update on the Concession Stand expansion and Mrs. Blanchard
told them that we have a scaled down model that perhaps we can afford to proceed with.
Contracts were discussed and explained that Long term, Little League, etc. are
handled by the City Manager, not the Recreation Director. Comments were that we should
be absolutely sure that we do not experience the same problem as last year, discriminatioi
against the Girls Softball Teams.
There being no further business to come before this Board, the meeting was
adjourned at 8:30 pm, by Chairman Fagan.
Respectfully submitted; Rose Blanchard, Secretary for the Board
