Adjournment DRAFT • MINUTES OF BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE May 10, 2000 A regular meeting of the Beautification Committee was held Wednesday, May 10, in the City Hall Conference Room. Present were June Morris, Chairperson, Mimi Ames, Barbara Bonner, Steve Geuther and Staff Member Susan Dunham. I. Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chairperson June Morris, at 7:40 p.m. II. Approval of Minutes Barbara Bonner moved to approve the Minutes of April 12, 2000, as submitted; Mimi Ames seconded and the motion carried. III. Old Business A. Update on Landscaped Areas: June Moms advised that on Friday, April 28, she, Gloria Vaughn and Barbara Bonner planted all the plants delivered by James Loper. James Loper will be delivering the rest of the plants next week. Susan Dunham advised that E&W Nursery completed a second round of maintenance on 12 garden areas which included mulching, fertilizing, etc., yesterday. In addition, Timmy Johnson and Susan Dunham interviewed two gardener candidates yesterday. B. Landscaping of Lifeguard Station: Susan Dunham displayed the final landscaping plan for the • lifeguard station. The Committee approved the plans. C. Tree Giveaway: The Committee determined the following: • Five gallon Sycamore and Live Oak trees would be used for the tree giveaway. • Individuals receiving the trees would be responsible for planting the trees themselves. If an elderly person needs help planting the tree,the Committee would be willing to assist. • Susan Dunham will prepare a"How to Plant a Tree"sheet for distribution with the trees. • Bob Kosoy has agreed to allow meter readers to hang door hangers. • Steve Geuther will design the door hanger. • Susan Dunham will prepare an application form. • June Morris will call Hickory Creek Nursery to get prices on Sycamore and Live Oak trees. • Deliver door hangers to Aquatic Gardens and Royal Palms. Barbara Bonner will find out the home count at Aquatic Gardens and June Morris will find out the home count at Royal Palms. • Door hangers will be delivered in July, the Committee will make the selections in August and the trees will be delivered in September. D. Atlantic Beach Elementary Art Festival: Susan Dunham advised that she had received 600 Shumard Oak seedlings to donate to the children at Atlantic Beach Elementary School during the Art Festival. In addition, Camille Hunter, Master Gardener,will present a tree planting demonstration for the fifth graders. IV. New Business 2000/2001 Budget: The Committee would like to request additional funds in the amount of$2,000 to beautify theside of Sailfish Drive from Atlantic Boulevard to Cavalla Road. The Committee decided to place the signs at the beach accesses that were not obvious--Second Street, Fourth Street, Eighth Street, Dewess Street, Sixteenth Street and Twentieth Street. June Moms and Susan Dunham will meet with Jack Baldwin to discuss placement of the signs. The second annual Greenscape Beaches Tree Sale is scheduled for March 10, 2001. This year's tree sale resulted in 1,353 trees, shrubs and plants sold. VI. Adiournment The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 p.m. June Morns, Chairperson
