Cindy stated that because Gary Santora has missed three consective
meeting he would be dismissed from the board. Curt Sanders name
was mentioned as a possible replacement.
ADELE GRAGE COMMUNITY CENTER
Discussion took place on potential renovation of the Community Center.
Reason for the renovation is to gave ABET two dressing rooms and
for better access from front to back. Cindy stated that ABET would
like to use the old recreation directors office, but Patricia Goelz
thinks that if they are going to renovate the attic they should use
it as storage space. Cindy has in mind to get rid of the existing
storage to expand the back for more open space. The discussion
ended with Cindy bringing plans to the next meeting for discussion.
PARK WORKSHOP
The Park Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, March 25 from 9:30 to
1:30 at the Community Center. On Wednesday, March 15 Cindy McKay
(Park Design/Architect) from the University of Florida and her class
will start there park study and design, beginning at Ilam. After
the tour the students will divide up into groups to concentrate on
one area. They are going to look at beach access, City yard, Jordan
Donner, Russell, Howell and Bull Parks. Once they have collected all
the necessary information they will depart and hopefully send us
a final report.
CAMP-OUT
Timmy Johnson stated that the Camp-Out is coming along very well.
He has contacted all the entertainers with them agreeing to attend
and the Board is responsible for serving breakfast.
GARDENING
Cindy talked with Ben Dinkins, who does native plants to see if
he would be interested in coming to one of the graden classes
and he said he would, also Cindy stated that Ben is giving a
speech at Jacksonville University Monday, March 13.
GARDENING CON'T
Sheena Goldblatt is interested in a community garden and could be
involved as a laison to the County Extension Office, free lance
writer, PR person or whatever. Patricia mentioned that an area
had not been desided upon but after the Park Workshop some areas
may come up. Gail Baker stated that a garden should not be in
a public park because of vandalism, maybe a Church ground or
someone's lot. The City Yard was also discussed as a possible
spot. The Recreation Director stated that he thought there
needs to be a community meeting first, to find out is there a
interest and if there is a interest let the community decide
on an area. No decision was made, the topic was tabled for
discussion at the next meeting.
EXTRA
The Commission is requesting that the Board look at the potential
purchase of the Richardson Property, to see whether or not it can
be used as park land or any community recreation activities,
therefore Cindy would like for the Board members to walk the
Property and come prepared to discuss it at the next meeting.
There was no further business before the Board and the meeting
adjourned at 10:00pm.
