Adjournment ,,~.:., MINUTES OF BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE August 9, 2000 A regular meeting of the Beautification Committee was held Wednesday, August 9, 2000, in the City Ball Conference Room. Present were June Moms, Chairperson, Mimi Ames, Barbara Bonner and Staff Members Susan Dunham and Timmy Johnson. 1. Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chairperson June Morris, at 7:40 p.m. 2. Recognition of Visitors Committee members, staff members and visitors Betty Graham, Peggy Cornelius, Carol Carstater, Pat Cagnassola, and Kay Lanier introduced themselves. 3. Approval of Minutes Barbara Bonner moved to approve the Minutes of June 6, 2000 and June 26, 2000, as submitted; Mimi Ames seconded and the motion carried. 5. New Business A. This item was taken out of order. 19~' Street Beach Access. Peggy Cornelius informed the Committee that a general landscaping plan has been drawn. DEP and the City of Atlantic Beach Public Works have approved this plan. At this point in time, the access has been graded, a bed of lime rock was added and it was covered with a 4" layer of coquina sand. The current landscaping plan is to be modified to utilize more natural plants such as grasses, sea oats and beach daisies. The 19~' Street beach access group will provide a final landscaping plan to the Beautification Committee at the next regularly scheduled meeting for approval. The 19~' Street Beach Access Committee requested that the Beautification Committee assist by purchasing a bench and a bike rack. B. This item was taken out of order. Selva Norte Median.. Betty Graham informed the Committee that she had been advised that the beautification of the median on 20~' Street at 5elva Marina. Drive would fall under the Beach Access Program. Susan Dunham advised. the Committee that she had been erroneously informed that the Selva Norte Group project had been approved and, therefore, accepted $500 towards the matching funds. Ms. Graham also informed the Committee that a City water source was available but that they would like to have it extended to the median. Susan Dunham will contact Public Works to see if they would be willing to extend the water source. Due to a lack of a quorum, the Beautification Committee could not vote on whether the beautification of this median fell under the Beach Access Program. June Morris stated that the Beautification Committee would address this issue at the next regularly scheduled meeting. If it is determined that this project does not fall under the Beach Access Program, the $500 will be refunded to the Selva Norte Homeowner's Association. Kay Lanier introduced herself and informed the Committee that Media One installed a palm tree and laid sod at the corner of Tenth Street and Beach Avenue. Ms. Lanier stated that she would like to install a fence to keep the dogs out of this area and would like to put in some mulch. The Committee Hn suggested that Ms. Lanier draw up a plan of what she would like to put in this area and how she plans to maintain it, and present her plan at the next Beautification Committee meeting. i ~ .Beautification Committee Meeting August 9, 2000 Page 2 4. Old Business A. Update on Landscaped Areas: Timmy Johnson advised that Terry Putnam was maintaining the garden areas and that she was ready to plant. The Committee requested that Terry Putnam put together plans for the garden areas to present at the next Beautification Committee meeting. B. Landscaping of Lifeguard Station: Tunmy Johnson stated that the landscaping of the lifeguard station is complete. C. Tree Giveaway: Susan Dunham advised that 33 tree applications were received. The Beautification Committee still needs to determine how the trees will be delivered. D. $15,000 Request for 2000/2001 Budget: Susan Dunham stated that the City Manager requested a breakdown of the $15,000 budget request. The Committee agreed that $7,500 will be allocated for trees for Francis Avenue from Jackson Road to Donner Road and $7,500 will be allocated for trees for Dudley Street from Mayport Road to George Street. E. Sailfish Drive: Barbara Bonner and Terry Putnam are going to meet to discuss plans for beautifying this area. Timmy Johnson suggested that when we get prices on trees, that we also get prices on watering the trees. F. Beach Access Program: Deferred until the next Beautification Committee meeting. 5. New Business A. See Above. B. See Above. C. Citizen Request for Reimbursement of Irrigation System on City Property. Due to a lack of a quorum, this item was deferred until the next Beautification Committee. 6. Announcements/Reports None. 7.
