`I'kre regular meeting of the Committee was held on Wednesday,
November ].3, in the Conference Room of City Hall. Present

Brenda Wray, Gloria Vaughn, Ron Schiebler, City Gardener, and

order at 7:35 PM, in the absense of Jack Robbins.
Gloria Vaugl~n moved to accept the minutes of the last meet-
ing, as written; Mimi Ames seconded and the motion passed.
Brenda Wray reported that the "Fall Bright Spots Tour" had
been very successful. Over 125 of the mapsJflyers had been
picked up at City Hall. Also, the Beaches Leader had pub-
lished a listing of the addresses of the locations on the
tour. Carl thanked the sub-committee, headed by Brenda and
Barbara Hopson, for their planning and handling of the event
which had ensured its success.
June Morris advised that, regretably, knee replacement sur-
gery was going to make it impossible for her to chair the
luminaria event, as planned. She asked for help and support
from all of the committee members in the selling of the kits
and promotion of the luminary lighting.
It was agreed that the committee would sell kits at the City
tree lighting scheduled for Friday, December 6. They will
also be sold again in Russell Park on Saturday, December 7.
-Ron will be available for the sale at the tree lighting and
Jane Vincent volunteered to help. Carl reported that rre had
spoken with Barbara Hopson and she indicated she could help,
also. He will contact her to verify. Botrr Brenda and Mimi
volunteered to Help with 2 hour shifts at the Saturday sale
in Russell Parii. Carl will also contact Barbara Banner as
she has lrelped in the past. He will coordinate the shifts
arzd remind members prior to the two sale events.
Jurre said when flyers Caere finished, she could distribute
them with a newsletter in her subdivision. Other ways of
marketing artd selling the luminaries were also discussed.
Members were reminded that the lighting of the luminaries
will be Sunday, December 22 with a raindate for the 23rd.
Ron reported on his recent planting and landscaping tasks.
which include the placement of a total of 770 pansey plants
in the various landscaped areas that are the resporzsiblity
of beautification.
Carl led a di_scussi.on about the forthcoming Arbor Day cele-
bration. I~'lorida Arbor day is the third Friday in January and
in the past, the Committee has observed that date and spon-
sox•ed the tr.ce sale on the following Saturday. Carl. reminded
members that lr.e would be on vacation for the first two weeks
in.Jarzuar,y and would return only a few days prior to the
event, leaving little time for him to coordinate. He sug-
gested that the committee might want to consider moving the
time of 1:he Arbox• day obsex•vance until February or March.
June Morris mentioned that for the past two years, weather
C;OI1d1tlOI1S had been very poor and last year, the cold, windy
conditions lead fox•ced the sale to end early and with few cus-
tomers. Fallowing discussion, it was agreed to hold the 1997
observarrcejcelebration in mid or late March. This will be
further discussed at the January and February meetings. June
also reminded members that no meeting would be held during
December, as previously decided upon by the membership.
There was no further business and June adjourned the meeting
at 8:45 PM.
