05-09-90BEADTIFICATION MINUTES The Atlantic Beach Beautification committee met on Wednesday, May 9, 1990 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. Present were Mayor Gulliford, Jody Ford, Dorothy Jones, Stan Jones, Susan Grube, Nancy Sheehy, Carl Walker, Alice Pardee, Betty Carey, Barbara Bonner, Dezmond Waters, Joanna Fletcher, Lyman Fletcher, & Georgia Horn. The meeting opened with discussion relative to the election of officers for the committee and also the lengths of terms. The discussion also covered the by laws which Lyman Fletcher has drafted along with other ideas which needed to be added to them such as the Yard of The Month and also the Budget Committee. The next subject was the revised tree ordinance which members were given a copy of for review. Mayor Gulliford said that he would present it to the commission for review and said that copies needed to be made for ~, commission packets for next weeks meeting. Carl Walker discussed the newly installed signs in the city and stated that Ken Horton, who maintains the grounds for the city said that he would be happy to include maintenance of the areas around the signs in his contract. Also the landscaping for the three areas were discussed and how much money would be needed to landscape them. Jody said that she could not see the areas costing more than $100.00 each. Mayor Gulliford talked about the Budget Workshop that will be taking place soon for next year and suggested that the committee prepare one and present it in letter form. At this time the medians on Atlantic Blvd. were discussed and the fact that they are owned by Neptune Beach. Mayor Gulliford said that he would check into it further with the Mayor of Neptune Beach to see what could be worked out in reference to beautifying the medians. He said he would see if they might .draft an ordinance to turn the medians ovex to Atlantic Beach. Discussion on the lighting was mentioned for the 18th & 19th street projects and examples were brought in by Joanna Fletcher to show members for comments. Some examples included metal, concrete, and wooden containers. It was agreed upon that concrete containers would be best suited for. With no further discussion the next meeting was scheduled for May 16, at 7:30 p.m. at City Ha11, and the meeting was adjourned at 9:SO p.m.
