BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE
November 10, 1999
A regular meeting of the Beautification Committee was held Wednesday, November 10, in the City Hall
Commission Chambers. Present were June Morns, Chairperson, Mimi Ames, Barbara Bonner, Steve Geuther,
Barbara Hopson, Jane Vincent and Staff Member Ron Schiebler.
I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson June Morris, at 7:35 p.m.
II. Approval of Minutes
Barbara Bonner motioned to approve the Minutes of October 13, 1999, as submitted; Mimi Ames
seconded and the motion carried.
III. Old Business
A. Arbor Day Program: Steve Geuther advised the Committee that he had forwarded to Greenscape
the letter that was received from Community Presbyterian allowing the usage of their property for
the tree sale on March 11, 2000.
B. Ron's Update on Landscaped Areas:
1. Police station: Completed;
2. Town Center: Ron is cleaning this area with help from Parks/Recreation and Public Works;
3. City Hall: Will be planting snapdragons and pansies;
4. Ahern Street: Will be edging and trimming the trees.
C. Lifeguard Station: Tabled until the next Beautification Committee meeting.
D. Street End/Beach Access Program: Tabled until the next Beautification Committee meeting.
E. Luminaria: Luminaria will be sold at the tree lighting ceremony at Town Center on December 4
.
Ron Schiebler will order signs to be put up around Town Center. The following is the schedule
for selling luminaria: Ron Schiebler: 5:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.; Barbara Bonner: 5:00 p.m.; Mimi
Ames: 5:00 p.m.; Barbara Hopson: 7:00 p.m.; Jane Vincent: 7:00 p.m. Luminaria will also be
sold at Russell Park from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 18, as follows:
Barbara Hopson: 12:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m.; Mimi Ames: 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m.; Jane Vincent:
1:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 19, will be the night to light the luminaria.
F. Trees on Seminole Road: June Morris advised the Committee that Susan Dunham had determined
that planting of trees from Atlantic Boulevard to Seaspray on Seminole Road would not conflict
with the stormwater drainage project. Ron Schiebler has completed a preliminary drawing of the
west side of Seminole Road and has determined that there is space to plant 31 trees.
G. Replacement trees on Plaza, Saturiba and Sailfish: Tabled until the next Beautification
Committee meeting..
IV. New Business
A. Memorial Tree Program: Tabled until the next Beautification Committee meeting.
B. Mayport Road Interchange Improvement Project: A discussion was held regarding the landscape
plans for the Mayport Road Interchange Improvement Project. The Committee members
approved the trees and shrubs listed on the landscape plan. However, the majority voted against
using cypress mulch and recommended using heavy pine bark or pine nuggets.

V. Announcements/Reports
Ron Schiebler advised the Committee that he would be retiring April 1, 2000.
