04-03-90/~ ATLANTIC BEACH BEAUTIFICATION P The Atlantic Beach Beautification Committee met on April 3, 1990 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, Atlantic Beach. In attendance were Pfiayor Gulliford, Carl Walker, Barbara Bonner, Jeannine Temple, Betty Carey, Alice Pardee, Nancy Sheehy, Bob Wilkins, Dorothy Hollis, Carolyn Woods, Lyman & Joanna Fletcher and Secretary Georgia Horn. Chairman Ford was unable to attend due to other business. Carl Walker opened the meeting due to the absence of Chairman Ford, and mentioned that since this was a special meeting, that the regular scheduled meeting would be held on April 11, 1990 as planned. He briefly talked about the Yard of The Month and said that once again it was time to nominate someone. He mentioned a yard located or. Ocean Blvd. that other members had also noticed and agreed that this was a good choice. At this time Carl asked Ca architect for BHR Planners, Street beach access. Carolyn Morgan, also a member and well working on this for years. The which included: rolyn Woods who is a member and also an for the presentation of the 18th ~ 19th stated that the work was done by William known Architect and said that he had been first example was of the 18th street plan 1. Parallel parking on both sides of street. 2. Planted medians. 3. Two way traffic. 4. Cement sidewalks with cross-ties. 5. 5 Foot landscape bumpers for near by property owners. 6. Trash receptacles "'~°"", Then she presented the 19th street example which was basically the same but was stated that it would be roughly 15 feet wide also with parallel parking. It would also include: 1. Street lights 2. Sidewalks 3. Signs 4. Striping 5. Landscape 6. New road work The estimated cost of the 19th Street work Carolyn stated would cost $65,000.00, compared to the cost of the 18th Street which would be $47,000.00. She also stated that the area would have Miami Curbs & Gutters, which are the rolled curb which would make it convenient for tires to be be able to roll over and are also much more attractive. The committee then commented on a sprinkler system and Carolyn said that she had not included it in the initial cost. She said that a system was usually one third of the Landscaping cost which would be $5,000.00. Mayor Gulliford mentioned that some of the work such as sidewalks, paving and striping was something he felt the state would absorb. At this time members volunteered to be on a sub-committee that would work on the following: 1. Lighting 2. Plants & Landscape 3. Trash receptacles 4. Concrete 5. Material The Sub-Committee includes: Joanna Fletcher Nancy Sheehy Barbara Bonner Betty Carey Bob Wilkins Alice Pardee Carolyn Woods !^~',. Further discussion on the access ways included parking and members asked if the loss of space would be great. Mayor Gulliford said he felt that it would not be much and it would be very close to what it is now and it also will allow for 2 way traffic. Carolyn Woods also commented on some brochures she will bring in next meeting on waste receptacles. She said they were attractive and made with treated wood and she felt this would be the best for the area. The sub-committee briefly met for a few minutes and with no further discussion the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. with the next meeting date being set for April 11th, at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.
