Adjournment CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH • RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING NOVEMBER 19, 1997 A special meeting of the Board was held Wednesday, November 19, 1997 in the Adele Grage Community Center Meeting Room at 6:12PM. Present were: Dezmond Waters, Chairperson Peter Coalson Barbara Hopson Patricia Goelz Scott Debuty Visitor: Sharla Valeski Suzanne Shaughnessy, Commission Liaison Timmy Johnson, Staff Liaison Barbara Hopson made a motion to approve the minutes of the last regular meeting. Patricia seconded and the motion carried. The first order of business was the placement of the sculpture. Sharla Valeski, an artist, Shadpictures and dimensions of the sculpture to present to the Board. Dezmond informed the Board that the City Commission decided not to place the sculpture in Bull Park because Bull Park is a Memorial Park and the time spent on the design; therefore, Bull Park has been ruled out. After a lengthy discussion about the placement of the sculpture, Barbara made a motion to place the sculpture in Howell or Russell Park. Dezmond seconded. Peter made a motion to amend the motion to read: Howell Park as first choice and Russell Park as second choice. The reasons for Howell Park are: the raised area; wouldn't eliminate trees; open space off seminole road. The reasons for Russell Park are: good location; adjacent to racquetball court Election of Officers: Dezmond fills that each Board member should have an opportunity to serve as an officer of the Board. 0 Scott nominated Dezmond Waters as Chairperson Patricia nominated Peter Coalson. Patricia Goelz counted the votes and Peter Coalson is • the new Chairperson by 3-2 vote. Patricia Goelz is the Vice-Chairperson and Dezmond Waters is the Secretary. Name that Park: A list of names was received through the Tides Views for naming the Tresca Property: Mayfair Fletcher Park, Mayfair Gardens Park, Mayfair Garden Forest Park, Maylantic Paradise Park, Osceola Park, ICW Park. Patricia recommends Tide Views Park. She also recommends naming the trials, etc. after a living person. After some discussion, Patricia made a motion to name the Tresca Property, Tide Views Park. Barbara seconded the motion carried. It was recommended that the Board wait until the City own Dutton Island before naming it. Dezmond would like for the Board to consider naming the trail at Tresca. • There will be no meeting in December. The Board's next meeting will be Wednesday, January 28 at 7:15PM.
