BEAUTIFICATION MEETING
The Atlantic Beach Beautification Committee held a special meeting
Wednesday April 25, 1990 at City Hall, Atlantic Beach, Fl. The meeting
was called to discuss the final changes on the Tree Ordinance. In
attendance were Jody Ford, Carl Walker, Dorothy Hollis, Nancy Sheehy,
Lyman Fletcher, Joanna Fletcher, Barbara Bonner and Georgia Horn.
At the beginning of the meeting, discussion in reference to recycling was
talked about and the progress which the City has made. Since the program
was introduced in July of 89, the 4,260 participating households have
contributed 371 tons of material to the program. The breakdown was:
200 tons ~ newspaper
125 tons of glass
_ 28 tons of metal cans
18 tons of plastic
At this time the meeting was turned over to Lyman Fletcher who has been
heading up the committee who. has been working on the Tree Ordinance. He
,., stated that what the sub-committee had done with the ordinance was:
1. Tried to simplify the contents
2. Added 1 new section
3. Developed contents
Discussion included certain areas such as grammar, definitions and dead
or hazardous trees. Also talked about were emergency situations and what
type situations it would take to make a permit exempt. The committee
decided to exempt permits caused by natural disasters, but not limited
to, created by storms, winds, floods and fires.
Carl Walker briefly talked about the new " Welcome to Atlantic Beach
signs stating that he had seen them and how great they turned out. He
stated that it would take a few more days for drying and another week or
more for the gold to sit and that the signs would be ready to be
installed in another week or so.
The remainder of the meeting was consumed by the discussion of the
Ordinance with the committee agreeing on .getting it ready to present to
the City Commission for final approval on their next meeting May 12.
With no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned at 9:45 with the
next meeting being held May 9, 1990 at City Hall.
