TREE CONSERVATION BOARD
HISTORICAL TREE ORDINANCE. SUB-COMMITTEE
May 28, 2002
A regular meeting of the Tree Conservation Board Historical Tree Ordinance Sub-Committee was
held Tuesday; May 28, 2002, in the City Hall Conference Room. Present were Richard Bell, Judith
Jacobson, Mae Jones, Barbara Mears, Maureen Shaughnessy and Susan Dunham.
1. Call to Order
The meeting was. called to order at 7:08 p.m.
2. Approval of Minutes of Meeting of Mav 14, 2002
A motion was made by Judy Jacobson, seconded by Mae Jones and unanimously carried to
approve the Minutes of the Historical Tree Ordinance Sub-Committee meeting of May 14, 2002.
3. Historical Tree Ordinance
Discussion was held to (1) change the draft ordinance to address specific palm colonnades versus a
global ordinance; (2) gather support from the community; and (3) enforcement of the ordinance. The
Board determined that the draft Ordinance would be presented with the fallowing changes:
1) Section 2, add: (d) Request from private property owners that colonnades on their property shall be
so designated;
;,, 2) Section 3(a), line three, after public or private property, add: "by any entity, public or private,"
3) .Section 4(a) through (f), add: "public colonnade" and "on the right-of--way" to each sentence.
4) Section 5, remove last sentence.
5) Section 5, add second paragraph: Each violation shall be reviewed by the Tree Conservation Board
who will recommend to the Code Enforcement Board an appropriate penalty ranging from a $50 fine
to full replacement of the damaged tree(s).

There being no other business or discussion, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
