TREE CONSERVATION BOARD
• May 15, 2000
A regular meeting of the Tree Conservation Board was held Monday, May 15, 2000, in the City Hall
Commission Chambers. Present were Mae Jones, Chairperson, Richard Bell, Camille Hunter, Judith
Jacobson, Eloise Koerber and Staff Member Don Ford.
1. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Mae Jones at 7:30 p.m.
2. Recognition of Visitors
None.
3. Approval of Minutes of Meeting of May 1, 2000
Richard Bell moved to approve the Minutes of the Tree Conservation Board meeting of May 1, 2000;
Eloise Koerber seconded and the motion carried.
4.A. Old Business/Tree Removal Applications
1. None.
5.A. New Business/Tree Removal Applications
1. Lots 1, 2, 3, Block 26, Section H: Mr. Tom Nuijens introduced himself and submitted an amended
site plan to the Board members. After discussion, the Board advised Mr. Nuijens that he would have
to return to the Tree Conservation Board to address the trees located on City right-of-way. After
• further discussion, Richard Bell moved that the Board approve removal of 30"of hardwood to be
mitigated with 15"of hardwood to be planted on site and requested the Building Official to issue a
permit based on required mitigation. Eloise Koerber seconded the motion, which passed
unanimously.
2. Lot 3, Block 181, Section H: Mr. Paul Nichols introduced himself to the Board. Richard Bell
moved that since more trees are remaining on the lot than are required for mitigation,the Tree
Removal Application is approved with no mitigation required and requested the Building Official
issue a permit. Eloise Koerber seconded the motion,which passed unanimously.
3. Lot 5, Block 164, Section H: Mr. Paul Nichols also addressed this application. Camille Hunter
moved that the application be accepted as submitted since there are no protected trees on the lot and
requested the Building Official issue a permit. Eloise Koerber seconded the motion, which passed
unanimously.
4. Vacant Lot West of 326 Tenth Street: Mrs. Kay Lanier introduced herself as property owner and
explained why the trees were removed. Mrs. Lanier stated that the palms were dead and Building
Official Don Ford stated that he felt the palms were alive. The Board discussed inch for inch
replacement due to the trees being removed without a permit. Richard Bell moved that 25"of palms
are to be mitigated with 25"of palms that were removed without a permit within 30 days. Camille
Hunter seconded the motion, with all Board members voting against the motion. Judith Jacobson
moved that Mrs. Lamer must mitigate 25"of palms by paying into the Tree Fund within 7 days or re-
planting within 14 days and requested the Building Official issue a permit. Richard Bell seconded the
motion,which passed unanimously.
6. Reports and Announcements
Richard Bell advised that builders had cleared a lot on Ocean between Sixth and Seventh Street and took
• out a pine tree in the middle of the lot.
The Board requested that maps indicating lots and blocks be included with each site plan.

11111 Judith Jacobson informed the Board that Bernie Showers has in the past expressed an interest in
becoming a Tree Conservation Board member.
7. Adjournment
There being no ether business before the Board,the meeting was adjourned at 9:28 p.m.
