01-22-97 v TREE CONSERVATION BOARD
Minutes of January 22 , 1997
The Board held its regular meeting on Wednesday, January 22 ,
in the Commission Chambers . Present were :
Hope Van Nortwick, Chairperson Rick Bell
Rick Beaver Judy Jacobson
Mae Jones
Staff: George Worley, Designee Carl Walker, Coordinator
The meeting was called to order by Hope Van Nortwick, Chair-
person, at 7 : 30 PM.
No representative of the applicant , Pulte Home Corporation,
was present for the review of the tree removal application at
Lot # 148 , Selva Lakes . The application lists three trees
proposed for removal , including a 36" oak.
Both Rick Bell and Mae Jones stated that the oak tree was
actually a multi-trunk tree . Discussion followed as to the
correct method of measurement of a multi-trunk tree to comply
with the ordinance. Mae Jones also expressed that she felt
that the tree survey submitted was not accurate as it did
not reflect other trees existing on the lot .
Mae Jones made a motion to defer action on the application
until such time as an accurate survey has been submitted.
Rick Beaver seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Under old business, George Worley reported that the Code En-
forcement Board would hold a special meeting on Tuesday, Jan-
uary 28 to hear the two incidents involving tree ordinance
violations . Hope Van Nortwick, as Board Chairperson, has
been sent a subpoena to appear at the Code Enforcement Board
meeting , and other Tree Board members are welcome to attend.
Karl Grunewald, Code Enforcement Officer, addressed the Board
with a brief description of the structure and function of the
Code Enforcement Board, as well as their procedures for hear-
ing cases which come before them.
Carl advised that he had posted, as required, the notice of
the special meeting to be held by the Tree Board on Saturday,
January 25 , at 10 AM. Due to the nature of the meeting , it
will not be necessary that a staff person be present. Mae
Jones will pick up the key to the Adele Grage Community Cen-
ter on Friday, January 24 , and Rick Beaver will take notes of
the meeting to give to Carl .
The Board listened to the tape of the meeting of December 16
so that the minutes of that meeting could be corrected.
Following discussion, corrections were made and verified.
Judy Jacobson moved to approve these minutes , as corrected.
Rick Beaver seconded and the motion unanimously passed.
In response to a status request from Rick Beaver on the
Atlantic Theater landscaping, George advised that he will
meet with a representative of Kent Theaters next week so
that a time schedule can be provided for implementation of
the required landscaping. George will report on this at the
next regular Board meeting .
A brief discussion followed on an incident wherein a home-
owner has moved into a residence built by Pulte Home Corp.
on which a C.O. has not been issued or replacement trees
planted as required by the Board. George will check into
this matter.
A correction was made to the minutes of the last meeting
to add " . . . for removal . . . . " to the last sentence of the
third paragraph. Mae Jones moved to approve the minutes,
as corrected; Judy Jacobson seconded and the motion passed
unanimously.
With no fu her business, the meeting adjourned at 10 : 25 PM.
