12-01-97 v TREE CONSERVATION BOARD
Minutes of meeting of December 1 , 1997
The Board held its regular meeting on Monday, December 1 ,
in the Commission Chambers of City Hall . Present were :
Hope Van Nortwick, Chairperson Rick Bell
Mae Jones Susan Bullock
Staff: Carl Walker, Coordinator George Worley, Designee
The meeting was called to order at 7 : 35 PM by Chairperson,
Hope Van Nortwick.
The first application before the Board was for removal at Lot
# 42 , Sevilla Gardens . Mr. Scott Sessions , owner/builder was
present .
The Board members had several questions on the application
and plans , specifically regarding wax myrtle trees on the lot
not shown on the survey. The applicant was unaware whether
they were to be removed or not. It was also noted that the
set-back requirements were not shown on the plans and that
the trees on the site were not marked. The accuracy of the
survey was questionable as to tree location and size.
After discussion, the Board and the applicant decided that
action on the application tonight would be deferred and Mr.
Sessions would return for the next meeting with a revised
and corrected survey. Rick Bell agreed to meet him at the
site regarding the wax myrtle trees .
Under old business , Hope reported that she had spoken to the
Mayor and they would meet at a later date to discuss the his-
toric tree/district designation proposal . Carl advised that
the Commission had approved the conceptual plans for Bull
Park and that Kelly Elmore reported that it would be approxi-
mately 8 weeks before the construction plans were completed.
The historic tree designation plan will continue to be placed
on the agenda as a discussion item, at the Boards request.
The Board was reminded that Hope Van Nortwick' s Board term
would expire the end of January, 1998 , and by ordinance, she
can not serve another consecutive term. Members were asked
to think about suggestions for a replacement which can be
recommended to the Mayor for consideration. It was agreed it
would be most helpful to find an individual whose experience
or profession is in the area of landscaping .
Hope Van Nortwick noted two errors in the minutes of the last
meeting and these were corrected. Mae Jones then moved to
accept the minutes, as ammended. Rick Bell seconded and the
motion passed unanimously.
There was no further business and the meeting was adjourned
at 8 : 15 PM.
